Wireless set up

Am I being a bit thick??

Just set up a new router as old one had packed up.

As you can see, managed to hook up the laptop no probs.

Wireless printer isn't responding. Now I thought that the signal to the printer comes direct from the laptop.

Or does the signal go from the laptop to the router to the printer? If so, clearly I need to get the printer set up tot talk to the router.

Andy you will have to do the setup on the printer as you did when you bought it as the printer uses your router as a gateway to your pc.

cheers buddie, sorted it out as soon as I could be bothered to get off my arse.

Why can't these things just automatically talk to each other.

:wank:s the lot of them.

Had the same problem. You need to go throught the 'set-up a new printer' process.
With mine (Epson) you had to initially choose the wired connection route and then part way through it allowed the wi-fi option to be chosen. :dunno:

I have an epson as well - all I had to do was whack in the 'key' code for the router and job done.

To link the pc to the router all I had to do was stick in the O2 CD and then press a 'connect' button on the router. Seem to remember it was a bit more involved than that with the old router from 2009.

Bizarrely the pc still can't see the printer if trying to install via the Microsoft functionality. All very weird.

All traffic goes through your router in your case. There's no ad-hoc communication once you stick structure in usually. No idea about how you need to install your drivers though. It depends on the printer and where the drivers can be installed from.

p.s. if you install a domain controller at home it works quite nicely. You add all the drivers to the server the printer is registered to, and any windows PC that asks to use it checks permissions and gets them off the server.

Just plugged it all in as we got em and everything ALWAYS works with no pissing about. Just don't have the time to waste to save a few quid. Cant take it with me so I'm enjoying it NOW!
