Why we buy what we buy

Being to goddamn wet to get out for a decent run ended up out in the cage to a friends to meet up with some club members just to chew the fat,
Now the coversation turned to the make of bike we ride & why, I troted out all the Honda build quality, racing blood line, value for money, resale value, speed, handling, steer cred, vercitility ,scatch, tour, plod about, & so on.
Over the years have owen JAWA, MZ, DKW, Mallaguti, Puch, Triumph, Norton, BMW, Honda'ssss, Yamaha, Suzuki, & back to Honda. But never a Kawazaki ? I would say that more often than not I chose to buy a Honda!!
Stange as my mate same sort of storie but mostly Kawa's.

I prefer Honda, not that I've had a lot of bikes, just that I like Hondas, never had one thats let me down. Having said that, if I get an out and out tourer, it will be a toss up between Honda or BMW.

Out & out tourer I have always promised myself a Pan...1 day or BMW R1150GS one ugly bike but to tour hard to beat IMHO

I do like the 1300 Pan, and keep going back to look at one, only seen the Beemers at shows, my guess is that a Pan will win anyway, but will have to take both out for a test first, wish they would 'loan' you demos for more that 1/2 an hour, how can you really get the feel of a bike in that short space of time. Guess hiring would be an option for a long term test (ie a week)

Bikes

I have owned quite a few bikes over the years - always seem to end up with at least 1 Honda in the garage - it's 2 at the moment. The older BMW's push Honda for build quality - can't speak for the newer one's.

Had them all....
Kwaks are great providing you are not gonna seriously use them ( apart from maybe the old 550 shafty ), Yams are great but dont like the weather, Zuks are great if you want budget performance .. but it really should be remembered they are built down to a budget..
BMW's. quirky but no where near as good as their rep.. A legend in their own image only I am afraid.. Others ? Well they all have their uses and foibles.. but at the end of the day i want build quality.. Hence I buy Honda.. that simple !
