Interesting Why I Stopped Wearing Motorcycle Body Armour................

I have sometimes removed armour from jackets when I felt it impeded me.

On one jacket I found the shoulder armour got in the way at junctions/lifesaver checks.

Although I knew none of what the chap told me, I have always removed the so called armour from my riding gear..
I beleave that comfort is more important... If I am wearing something that is not comfortable, that removes a percentage of concentration...and more concentration means I am less likely to closely inspect the flora, fauna and local ditches to start off with !

If you do a search on here (albeit some time ago) I gave examples of crashes I have dealt with where body armour has actually increased the severity of injuries and in some cases contributed to the crash being a fatality.

Enough said? :(

Removed the armour from my riding jeans & summer jacket as they moved around & never seemed to line up with where my shoulders & elbows are in reality (yes, my body shape is pretty much similar to every other 60 year old male (y)).

Have left the armour in my touring jacket/trousers as I don't really notice they're there, but I'm now considering whether that's necessary.

Well, I found out that my wallet in the long pocket left a nice lump on my thigh:rolleyes:

I don't ride with a phone or keys in my jacket pocket. When I wrote the Bird off, there was a nice phone shaped bruise & an even bigger bruise where I hade my keys & that was only a nice graceful slide from around 20mph

I wouldn’t like to say whether the body armour in my leathers and back protector saved me when I had my only off which was at about 2mph.

I always wear armour in my jacket and strides, but I have wasted a few quid finding armour that is comfortable enough to be more or less non intrusive and non restrictive.

Would be interested to know what type and grade of armour they use in proper race suits for the likes of the top moto gp stars etc. Suspect it will be even better than the equestrian armour.

Never worn armour in jackets or trousers as being comfortable and not distracted by the damn stuff is a much better idea than testing out if it works as sometimes claimed

Most of us already knew its of limited use and only then in quite specific circumstances (EG almost never)
