I believe the road tax system as it presently is unfair. If I buy a vehicle part way through a month, why the hell should I pay for the part of the month that I did not own the vehicle?

The road tax should start from the day I owned the vehicle... thieving B******S. :shooter:

what is so different between the government and the days when highway men used to hold people up to take their money and valuables by force. the government is no better except for they make the law that gives them the right to do anything they want to...and they don't have to justify to us what they do with our money, or they pretend to justify (Tell them only what they need to know) they are all bloody robbers as far as I am concerned. :t

wouldn't be so bad if they spent the money on the ROADS, instead of massaging figures to shift in other directions, after all it is ROAD tax...

We hear about the US government being corrupt, hate to think what they would find out here if they were really honest.... or had a real and proper investigation.. they make me :puke:

I think the current system in the UK is unfair, but rest assured ANY other scheme WILL leave you further out of pocket one way or another.
Spare a thought for drivers here in Holland we pay on average two and a half times the rate in UK AND pay same for fuel. :bang:

IMHO

Road tax should be scrapped, why should a rep who does 1000's of miles a week pay the same road tax as an OAP who only goes out to church each sunday?.

Abolish road tax and put it on fuel, that way we pay pro rota, and we also get the gypo's.

It is vehicle licence duty so they don't have to spend it on the roads. So why should one person have to pay more "vehicle licence duty" than another1 :p

I could have sworn it said on my reminder it was Road Fund licence, which I took to mean goes to funding the roads. I could be wrong however and remarkably it has been known!!
Still think however unfair the system is, you are required to have a tax disc so if you want to ride it, tax it, compared to tax for a cage its not that much.

tax disc or not, it does tend to be a "visible" indication that may lead to other offences found to be being commited, ie no tax disc possibly, no insurance or mot,
however, although cameras can "spot" the untaxed/uninsured vehicles, it still needs "the boys in blue" to go and do the arresting, and were getting less and less of them, :dunno:
while Im "doing the ranting" why am I paying all my working life, national insurance to be told, Im not paying anything towards my old age pension, and I may now have to work untill Im 70
and in my case though I am paying into a "private" pension, if it gives me too much, "they" will deduct the difference from my state pension, And tax me again on it,

simple solution ......

scrap the "Road Fund Licence" disc, put a small (and Mr. Brown  , we do mean SMALL you money grabbing thief) amount on fuel so that the users of the road actually pay for their upkeep, and have the Insurance companies be required to issue a "tax disc style" proof of valid insurance that must be displayed at all times, that way, no disc in window (or displayed) equals crush the fecker with who ever happens to be the owner at the time as well.

This has the added bonus of removing cars (vehicles from the congested roads, less pollution, (cos it ain't there) and stops the owner doing it again. ever.) Everybody is a winner. Draconian? you bet!!

So, tax is paid when you fill up, and the insurance companies only need to send your insurance docs to the local Post Office for you to collect (registered mail type thing) for which you must produce your V5 and valid (if appropriate) MOT cert.
OK, a bit longwinded, but what would you rather, making a trip to your Post Office once a year, or getting totalled by someone who dosen't have any tax, insurance, MOT and then fighting your claim through hell and high water?

Removes any loopholes and ambigutity about whether the vehicle should be on the road.

vote me in, and I'll sort the transport system out overnight!!! :yo:

Mike - that's exactly what they do in Jersey. No requirement for Road Fund Licence (mind you, hardly any bloody roads anyway!!). But you do have to display a valid insurance disc. Would be much better idea making everyone display an insurance disc. Uninsured cars / bikes etc. must be a far bigger problem than untaxed vehicles.

Oh well if it's "vehicle licence duty" that's OK then... BTW what does that mean exactly? Is it like " Value Added Duty", a fancy name to call the "we butfuck you dry with a fistful of rock seasalt but it's legal because we're the government so shut the fuck up and pay already bitch" tax... Next, "oxygen use duty", "bodily function stamp"... More fancy tax names anyone?
