no mate....didn't hear it as i don't listen to radio 4,but it doesn't suprise me though.where i go riding, there is a variety of surfaces...some good and some not so good(this new salt doesn't help either),and as been said..we/some blame our tyres when i feel it's down to the road surface being used :dunno:

nor do i , which is why i missed it as well!!!

from what he was saying, we have these roads because they are a lot cheaper, but they get polished very very very quickly(1 week in some cases) and then the grip does and people died, crash for no obvious reason.

I didnt mate, but I did hear on Mudlands today at 1830 today that the midlands road gritting lorries are using Molases  in with the grit/salt mix to enable it to stay on the road and not wash away...

Could this be the mystery substance that is causing the road to become slimy & slippery after rain/snow ???

Feckin dangerous in my book....

having ridden on German roads I can say without any hesitation, that they are 100% better than our roads (surface wise)they are smoother, with no overbanding/no deep potholes/very few cases of ridging. If ours were that good I would never leave this country.........NOT :neenaw:

Lets hope for some good riding this year eh ??

Cheers,

Rolfy

they are using that shit all over the place dave, leaves the road very white when it has dried and is like sand on the surface.

I think you will find

that they are using Sugar Beet in the gritting process. It was reported in the MCN ages ago.. I must say that folk on here have had problems on the roads with their cars. My beemer with its rear wheel drive is usually very dicey on slippery roads, but I have had no problem at all and believe me I don't just pootle around!!! R#?

Being an avid "Wireless four" listener, I caught the programme Wolfie and it was a real eye opener. Frightening. Road surface contsruction and repairs are being carried out in this country that have indeed been banned in other countries because they are considered so unsafe. Not only to motorcyclists.
I won't spoil the programme for you.
You can listen to radio 4 online and there is a listen again facility.

I sat & listened to it....

What an eyeopener...

The councils & contractors dont give a shit about anyone or anything...

If an overbandint or pothole has been incorrectly filled in, they just say... "Well its OK by us, its been filled in/smoothed out"...Even if it doesnt meet friction co-efficiency standards set out by law..

The disinterest shown by the contractor, even when a motorcyclist dies on his bit of "fixing" was totally gobsmacking... "Not my problem" he said. even though the police incident investigators stated that the repair was fine for cars, but inherantly dangerous for bikers.

Makes you wonder what this country is coming to...

I iknow it all comes down to money in the end, but there are limits to what us tax/roadfundlicence/insurance payers should have to put up with.

Sorry, rant over.
