This makes my blood boil.

When BLM first started it was of it’s time for one reason or another but I remember saying on here that I’m not sure where it would go as it didn’t seem to leave any room for manoeuvre in terms of inclusion, building bridges or strategy.

I‘m not one for believing what I read at face value in articles such as the one in this thread (headline making/sensationalism/click bait/promoting an agenda) so I took a look at the BLM website. I had expected to see a reasoned and well explained strategy with specifics such as ‘boycott this company as they have zero non-whites on their board or senior management positions’ or ‘boycott this company as they have 98.3% white employees‘ but there was none of this, just a diatribe about ‘white capitalist society’ and links to ‘black businesses’ that should be supported. Now maybe I am cynical but I would wager that those businesses have paid to be promoted by BLM.

The reason it makes my blood boil is i had my mind opened on racial injustice in my latter years at work and appreciate what can be achieved when people start realising they are part of the problem rather than thinking it is someone else‘s problem - when this happens they can then be part of the solution.

Based on the ‘Black Xmas’ project as presented BLM is now totally tunnel visioned and, in my view, does not do their cause any favours whatsoever.

Rant over.

What is your view on the taking the knee & raising a fist? Bearing in mind that this was the symbol for the black panther movement & black power,

Why you asking me?

For what it’s worth I am all for taking the knee as long as it is a choice. The very positive reaction by football crowds to this action says a lot.

You are obviously leading me by the way you have constructed the ‘clenched fist’ question - as it happens I agree with your leading because in my view the clenched fist is unhelpful and unnecessary in the current climate. It is the action of young men that are probably genuine in their use of it but do not fully understand the history. It is noticeable that it’s use has reduced significantly which suggests that more education is going on which can only be a good thing. However, there are much bigger issues that need to be addressed than the, in my personal view, misguided use of the clenched fist.

As I said, when people accept they are part of the problem then, and only then, can they be part of the solution.

In my opinion.

It’s ok labelling people as “part of the problem” but the people who are part of the problem but refuse to accept the fact are the very people who are bleating & crying discrimination when they don’t get their own way, the people who are demanding top jobs despite not being qualified, the people who demand we erase our Country’s history.

Do you think that there are many people who aren’t part of the problem?

In a parallel universe we have a Sin Féin politician who says we should grind the "crown" off all the old post boxes.

He was brought on a radio show and lots of people texted in against him. I think there was one in us favour.

Part of history.

Highly productive interview

I answered your question, can you answer mine?
To answer that we would need to know definitively what the problem is, once people of ethnic origin were called coloured & to call them black was wrong, then it was wrong to call them coloured, same with the term half-caste, that then became mixed race, then dual heritage, you can be classed as racist simply by not knowing the up to date term.
To solve a dispute requires give & take on both sides however you have hard liners on both sides who refuse to cede, to live in harmony we need to accept that we are all individuals with our own feelings & thoughts & we are not all going to like each other for whatever reason, I witnessed personal race hatred in Bermuda when we walked into a bar full of black men, luckily we got out alive, white colleagues who got a two year posting to Cayman islands suffered racial abuse.
In my view the problem is that people cannot accept that we are all different, sadly racism will never be eradicated.

Ok,let me put it another way.

Do you think there are many people out there who do not discriminate racially in any shape or form, regardless of race or colour, whether overtly , covertly or both?

Andy the term “we” now use is Conscious and Unconscious. Basically both mean you are Racist if you are white.

It is human nature to form an opinion on sight, it is part of our defence mechanism, take a look at the animal World for an example, we used to have a boxer dog & she was attacked by two GSD’s from then on this friendly, loving, playful dog became a defensive, hackles raised growling monster when she saw a GSD.

I was hoping for a yes or no answer!
