Comparison

It's much lighter, the brakes therefore have less bulk to stop and do haul you up pretty quick.
It doesn't have a centre stand which I miss already for cleaning the wheels.
Real world speed just as good, handling is so much better. Clutch is non-hydraulic, so it seems heavy. The triple engine sound is awesome, similar to a ZX ram air induction howl, but it's there all the time to scare cage drivers.
The mirrors give just as much rear view as the huge things fitted to the Bird.
Not had time to put the tank range to the test yet and work out the mpg on a good run, but the 955 engine is usually fuel efficient.
One trade off from not having a full one piece seat, is the tail unit storage space, it's a whoppa.
Twin trip meter and a clock is nice, but no fuel guage, just the bright yellow light telling you 4l left to go.
When I get some more miles clocked up, I will post some more on the Daytona.

Very very nice.

I took the same model for a test ride, it was also a silver one and I was really impressed.
I don't know why Triumph changed from the single side swinging arm of the previous model only to return to it after this model.
Happy riding

Triumph had stability problems with single sided swing arm which they coulnt overcome.
Love the Daytona - but Triumph stop making them in December, and replacement has not been announced yet, so there should be some bargains to be had as dealers try to offload stock.

Single or twin ?

I could have had a single sided one as there seems to be lots of them for sale, the 2001/2002 model got the black twin arm and they work, as nearly every other maker uses them too. I have seen the rear bearing and chain adjuster seize on the single sided ones, so must need a bit more tlc keeping them running.
The top fairing and lights also changed from 2002 onwards, and don't look right, which the 650 Daytona also got wrong a'la picachu face.

After the jaunt to Hunstanton at the weekend, I can report .....
Fast riding, sees the tank emptied in 143 miles, but it takes ?3 less to fill it up compared to the Carb bird. So it is better on fuel by quite a margin.
Low down torque is brilliant, it is everything I wanted the 97 Blade to be, but wasn't. The drive out of corners has to be felt, to appreciate how good a triple engine is.
Top end is not a patch on the bird , can't see me ever seeing 160mph again.
Front seat comfort, no better/no worse than the bird, numb-bum still sets in at 90ish miles.
Screen is low, might need swapping for a double bubble, bars seem OK, not had numb fingers, and stiff neck like I had on the bird.

The bit I like best, is the lack of cramp in the hips, caused by the seat/footpeg position.

Brakes are still better, ditto the lights.
