What is this tape measure for... ??

I used to use this tape measure a lot at one time, but not so much nowadays. It's perfectly feasible that I might use it regularly again at some point in the future.

The tape I'm referring to is the lower one in the picture. The top one is a regular tape measure. BOTH these tapes are showing INCHES! The only difference is my special one is also showing tenths and hundreths - the big figures on it are INCHES.

What is this tape for... ??

(if anyone knows straight away, just declare you know, or pm or mail me. Let the others have a crack at working it out for a while!)

As the inch's on the bottom tape are much further apart than the top tape, I suggest its a Fat Bastids tape to fool them into thinking their waist line is much smaller than it really is :dunno:

Lol @ Allan!

It's nothing to do with scaling Sam, or models.

I agree with MickB it appears to be scaled at just over 3 times so it would give diameter if you measure circumference.

8!!! you sure c7u8 , it's more like just over 3:1 which made me think of Pi and the guess it's to measure circumferences/diameters

You git, you've edited it, should have quoted it

MickB - I was looking at cm rather than the inch scale. I did give my reason for editing as stupidity, but I am glad it didn't get quoted!!

Yes - it is in fact a diameter tape, as a couple of you have correctly worked out, and Pi does play a part.

Each of those "inches" is in fact 3.141 inches (the value of Pi), so you wrap it round the pipe (or whatever) and the reading on the tape, at the point where it crosses, is actually the diameter. Saves you carrying a calculator around with you and is mucho quicker!

(Normal way to find diameter - measure around circumference and divide by Pi).

MidLifeCrisis was the fisrt to get right........ he mailed me at 14.44!
