Just bought my beautiful Bird last week _ felt so proud until I found this site - I am now suffering periods of self doubt and paranoia! Why? Well it is a 97 carb'd model, in burgandy red with 15k on the clock, and from reading all your threads, it appears the carb'd model is crap beside the injected bird, the colour is for gays and girls only, and although I bought her from a used bike dealer, it appears she needs a huge service in less than 1k !! What have I done ?? c7u8

Thanks for the welcome. I look forward to seeing you about? I am delighted with the carb model. Previously rode a fuel injected VFR800, and she is so much smoother, carbs or not!
:yo:
Are there any local (ish) Bird meets throughout the year?

I had my 97 Bird for 7 years. Not a single problem with it.

15K. Has it been stood?

Welcome and enjoy your Birding

Thanks to all for the warm welcome! w;;v

Looking at all the old MOT's, and the fact that she looks almost like new, the previous owner spent more time polishing than riding her - intend to keep up the cleaning regime, but much prefer riding than cleaning!!
Matlock is only about 25 minutes ride from home (Brinsley, near Eastwood). Is there a particular Bird meet there? When and where is the big bash? 'scuse the ignorance, but if you dont ask, you dont find out.

Laquer or nail varnish ?? Mmmm not sure, but guess what, - I dont care, cos I think she is wonderful !!!

:yo:

Saw a brand new 06 plated R6 on M1 services today. The bloke told me was having to stop at every service station to let the blood flow back to his legs and that it was the most uncomfortable piece of sh**e he had ever had the misfortune to ride - that was worth the wait and the money then !! - not!:violin:

Hi , Ive just bought a gay red carbed model, highly polished but twice the miles as yours . I could have bought a black injected one for about the same but I prefer the carbs , less electickery to go wrong. I also prefer the candy red to give it its proper name , the black ones are just too , well , black. Used to live in Notts and went to Matlock on Sundays on my trusty Honda MT50 back in the early eighties, in fact that was my last road legal bike until late last year , since then Ive had a Suzuki TL100s , hated it ,looked good stood still ride was unpredictable to say the least , swapped that and some cash for a Honda VTR Firestorm which I've still got and then this week bought the 'Bird' , excellent bike , puts the others in the shade , going touring in scotland in june , but will be out and about as much as possible before then , may see you in Matlock one fine sunday

The big one will have you going down to deepest darkest Norfolk ( where wolves still roam wild in the forest, and other sheep fanciers visit on their toiletflush - Blue birds )

You forgot to mention the ants & snakes

The best bike on the planet and you're whingin.

Enjoy that puppy. 15000 k's on the clock. She's only just run in.

Just spray her black and enjoy. They go faster in black 2.

Ricardo...ive got a 97 "Pinkbird" too...ignore the colour & just enjoy the top end rush of the carb model that the FI model just doesnt have. Youve bought an excellent bike...and dont worry...the colour does grow on you after a while...honest...!:yo:

Aren't you mistaken?...... that "top end rush" is imaginery caused by the mid end flat spot on the carbed bikes...... solved by the injection models.....man8um

. . . oh yeah. . . and the subsequent loss it overall horsepower as the years go by. . . :p

im talking about the riding experience. Maybe the FI models are better in this respect, but its how the bike feels & the carb bike always FEELS a helluvalot quicker than the "softer" feeling FI bike. . . each to his own. . . :p
