Warnings or Not?

Do you warn others of speed traps - particularly mobile ones?

I know I do and have been saved by others doing the same.

However, apparently it's "obstruction" or "perverting...." or some such.

So how is waving a warning (or putting up your own sign) different to the signs put up officially - don't they both do the same thing.

I know of at least one BIRD member who flaps like mad when he spots a camera van (last seen going airborne in Derbyshire a few weeks ago)

Anyway exactly how do you pevert justice - and does it like it?

:dunno: :f

I do it too, all the time.

There was a story on here a little while ago about someone who got fined AND had 3 points on his licence cos he got caught warning others about a speed trap!

I 'spect some of the others will remember it as well.....

So is it illegal to warn oncoming motorists of hazards in a road ie cattle/sheep etc breaking out of a field and gathering on a road, or to warn them that they are heading towards a pile up.
I think they are trying to make all types of communication illegal, we will soon all have to travel in silence and not even be allowed to look at other motorists.

I remember hearing about some old bloke getting done for warning other roadusers about a trap (was it near leominster ?..or did I dream it? :dunno: )
I warn any road user (bike, car, lorry, except boy-racers in chav cars) as they may do the same to me next time,as for how long do you keep warning people, about 1/2 to 3/4 mile depending on other traffic.

There was a bloke on the news about 12 months ago who got fined for obstruction when he stood up the road from a speed trap (safety camera?) warning oncoming cars about it.

The week before that he was walking up and down the road in the same place warning drivers about the presence of a car boot sale and to take care parking and he got a pat on the back from the local plod.

Two faced b******s that what I say.

He tried to tell the magistrates that he was helping the Police in their task. After all, it's about slowing down traffic, not collecting fines isn't it?
But to no avail. The poor bugger now has a criminal record.

I would never warn road users of a mobile speed trap as it is indeed illigal.
However, I ALWAYS warn drivers and riders to slow down as there is a potential distracting type hazard parked on the side of the road somewhere ahead of them.

What I find interesting is that the whole deal of it being illigal directly contradicts what the so called safety camera units are about.

They are SUPPOSED to be a deterent to speeding.. Yet when they do their job ( folk who are warned slow down ) you have commited an offence.

Either the camera's are there to raise money or to slow traffic.. They cannot have it both ways !

John, your'e so right - complete contradiction.

Round here we have a few of those solar powered light up limit signs that come on if you're over the limit and remind you what it is. I've also recently seen a trailer with a light up sign doing the same thing which the police leave on various roads.
Both of these seem to work very well and must be must cheaper to run/maintain - but of course they don't actually raise any revenue - just make the road safer.
I seem to recall having read somewhere that the light up signs were actually more effective than cameras at getting people to stay within the speed limit i.e. they don't seem to speed up again after slwoing for the sign.

What if ...

you saw a van parked down the road from a school (yes they do that round my way aswell as duel carriageways), it is 3PM and you saw a car/bike etc hooning it at say 50mph.

Now lets say that you warn the driver who slows down, and who will probably slow also on other occasions as this is a known site. Job done, safety scamera partnership working.

Now lets say that you don't warn the driver because of fear of criminal record, and he wipes out some kid. By the police/courts preventing you exercising your common sense, would they be in some way culpable because they have set up a 'sting' and put the public in danger.

if some twat was speeding next to a school then he deserves all he gets,!! the only places IMHO these cameras should be is outside schools, :dunno:
AND I think it's about time that traffic wardens were given the oppertunity to book some of these 4X4/and others, drivers just stopping in the middle of the road just to drop "little jimmy/jane" at school!! the standard of driving makes me wonder if half of em have a liscence at all,!!

i do

I always have and allways will, bike, car, lorry, most biker's give out the warning as do most lorry drivers. If we all did it then they get the desired effect, slower Vehicles.

I know what you mean Ian I came out of the gym the other day and a bloke was trying to park one of those Warrior thingys next to my car, he left enough room for himself to get out but he parked so close to my car and at such an angle that I couldn't get to my door. as he was getting out I said " You're not thinking of leaving it like that are you" his reply "Why whats wrong with it" when I showed him he said "Oh I'll shift it then" he must have gone backwards and forwards ten times before he could straighten it up, when he got out he smiled and said "I love the size of these" my reply "apparently not" the guy was about 5'2" and could hardly see out of the thing.

Allways warn fellow truck drivers, bikers and anyone towing a boat behind there car. :}

Once came across a camera van parked in a lay by on the A14. I decided it was time for a tacho break and parked there with him. He played merry hell cos I was blocking his view but when I stated the drivers hours regulations at him he had to fook off. Money raising twats the lot of em.
