Why fit V-tec bars, what was wrong with the orginals?

Won't it change the handling and as you'll be in a more upright riding position, won't you be more exposed to buffeting now? :dunno:

with reference to the above question, whats the lever etc, answer from jaws, ta, ive been looking through the mps catalogue and spotted an object they call a thrttle rocker,[page 153] has anyone used one of these for any time:dunno: , if so could you comment on its worth, as i suffer, like bif with carpol tunnel, and the old wrist goes tits up after a motorway run,

I was sent one to try.. what a load of ... errrrr well lets say I was not impressed :bang:
There is a natty little thing that I use along with many others that semi-locks the throttle in place.. Much cheaper and easier to fit that the Throttlemiester and other variations..
I believe they are currently available from M and P for about 18 quid..
It is operated by the thumb to lock on, or the finger to knock off.
Fitting time is basically 15 minutes, but fiddling about setting it just right for you personally can add another 15 minutes to that time !!
From memory ( I bought mine from the states years ago ! ) it is called a Napster or somesuch.
In a review in an American magazine it was described thus:
This is 2 bucks worth of injected plastic that is gonna cost you $30.
it will be the best $30 you ever spent.

I completely agree !!
As I do many medium to long distance runs and am often in the saddle for 5 or 6 hours at a time, I would not be without it nowadays..
If you would like a picture I shall see what I can do mate.

Thinking of putting them on my bike, (cos I've messed me shoulder up and can't lean forward so far now), are they a big improvement over the original ?

Also are there any fitting problems, such as cable runs, hoses, clearance on the screen at full lock etc etc ?

Any info would be helpful.

Cheers in anticipation,

Mike

Sounds like a damn good idea .... haven't ordered mine yet, but am likely to be getting them from David Silver Spares, unless anyone has got a better (read: cheaper!) place to get them from.

Also, does anyone know whether X11 bars would fit the Blackbird to give the same result as the VTEC bars? been trawling the Help formum, but no-one has ever answered the question before, despite several peeps asking, so I thought I'd ask again.

regards

Mike

Throttle Locks

In my other incarnation as a Triumph rider quite a number of our American cousins advocate a throttle lock called a "Throttle Miester". Dunno if these are the same thing as the one fitted to Jaws bike but they seem to cost and look about the same.

Some others on the Trophy web site suggest using an "O" Ring between the twistgrip and the clamp that the starter switch is housed in using enough friction to counteract the throttle return springs "much cheaper option" but does mean that you have to twist the throttle to close as well.

When I was a callow youth and Triumph Motorcycles were made in Meriden and had the gear lever on the right and the back brake on the left, most twistgrips had a friction screw fitted as standard. Progress or what?

Ahh them were the days free oil leaks, crossply tyres, Magneto's, kickstarts, Gatso was an Italian racing driver who invented a camera to check how fast his car would go during developement testing.

Hang on, I've lost me Pipe and Slippers. :}

Vista Cruise

Just thought I'd add my ?0.02... I bought one of those throttle locks (on Jaws' advice - cheers Jaws) and I think it's pretty good too. Fitting's a bit of pain though - had to modify it a bit. It's called a "Vista Cruise". MPS do sell 'em, but not under that name. In the catalogue I think it was something like "Universal nylon throttle lock for most dual throttle cable bikes."
