All too common sadly, a 24 year old man lost his life on his bike a couple of message from me. Had a coming together with a car. Happened on Monday evening.

I was following a learner rider on a scooter, he was going very slow & looked unsafe, I pulled out wide & put my hazards on, got to the lights & they were on green, he got through & pulled over outside the post office, I pulled in & asked if he was alright, got a bit of a shock as I was expecting a young kid but he was around 40ish, he thanked me for protecting him & said he’d just bought it from his brother & it was his first time on it, I told him to book some lessons with ride-on, just up the road, don’t know if he did but he was definitely an accident waiting to happen.

I suspect there's a lot of accidents this time of year with bikes being pulled out of winter hibernation & riders thinking they're still as good as they were after 5 months off the bike.

I ride mine throught the year & am still cautious after 2 weeks not riding, at least for the first 30 minutes or so. but then, I ride an advernure bike, so I'm hardly going to hoon it around the countryside like the riding god I thought I was 30 years ago.

Yep its getting towards that time of year where the weather picks up a bit and the summer riders add to the accident statistics

As an aside i hate the word accident in this context, there is always a reason

Prime example .... a lad i know suffered life changing injuries last year in a so called accident .... he highsided and smashed himself to bits .....

He seemed unimpressed when i pointed out ......
1, you dont highside at legal built up area speeds and the bike does not travel 50yds on its side afterwards
2, It wasnt on a road he was familiar with
3, he hadnt ridden for 4 months before that day

Conclusion, too fast at night on a road he had never travelled before riding a bike with much more power than he was ever able to handle ... the few grand in kit didnt stop him having to learn to walk again where as ten bobs worth if common sense would have saved the police and nhs a fortune

Another thing that is contributing to accidents is the poor standard of driving these days, every day we are encountering idiots, one I had the other day, I was on a three way roundabout, I was actually indicating right (I know I didn’t have to) car in the left lane started to pull forward then braked sharply then started hammering her horn,
