No matter what happened IXXRA and Anth will always hold a special place in my heart
I have just popped on to the forum and it is full of spam
I am gutted.. No idea why the the folk running it are letting it happen but it is really a shame and awful to see

Happens to any forum that is fairly dormant for a while, the old martial arts and bike forums I used to moderate are the same I really don't know why the admin don't just shut them down and be done with it

It pains me to say that elsewhere I’ve seen similar sentiments expressed about B.I.R.D.

The demise of dedicated, specialist sites of all types is inevitable as members grow older and less able to participate in their chosen activities. Energy levels fall, enthusiasm wanes and participation diminishes, becomes diverted from its original purpose or dwindles away until it fails completely.

“Fings ain’t wot they used to be.“

…Just a fact of life, I’m afraid.

Yes agree.,, but at least we are on the ball as far as spammers go
We get at least 2 or 4 register every day, and yes, very occasionally one slips through but it is rare, and when one does post it is quickly dealt with

I had a discussion with a chap fa Reacher about here. He was disgusted that you have to pay to see the help section. I tried reasoning with him about server costs and that we dont advertise but he was having none of it. I suppose getting facebook for free, apart from all the advertising!! (LOL), is to blame.

Even if posts about the Blackbird ceased I'd still be on here for the craic. The BIRD forum is one of the last bastions of free speech, IMHO.

In years to come we'll be seen as the embryonic Resistance against the online tyranny and woke bullshit that's taking over the world. :comp4:

I used to regularly visit other blackbird & bike forums.
Like many on here back then IXXRA was as visited as Bird and a lot of us were active on both.

Bird has stayed important for both the technical and friendship aspects.

For some reason the mix on here just seems to work.

I suspect it has mostly to do with JAWS attitude in the early days.
Massive enthusiasm for all things blackbird plus allowing free and open discussion with very loose and rarely used limits/moderating.

As a result thus is more like meeting mates in the pub. You can say what you like but you'll still get a smack in the chops if you overstep!

There were also much more actual meets ups in the various areas of the country. Again that cemented relationships.

Like many I see myself remaining here even if the day comes when I no longer have a bike :)

I will never forget when we were hosted on bikers oracle and due to server works had to share forum/space with others.

We were asked to "tone it down" beforehand and duly did so. Despite that many were still upset and found the open speech and wacky humour too much :)

But then, many others found it a refreshing change and realised that "their section" was normally so tightly controlled/moderated that it was more like a primary school classroom!

As for objecting to paying for the help section :( sorry, but anyone objecting to that is daft (I'm being polite there).

It's not much and in any case if someone was really on hard times and couldn't afford it I reckon a way would be found to sort it out for them.

Bird has somehow created a unique environment which continues.

Again ill finish by saying that it's clear where that originates......

Take a bow JAWS.

Leadership, even when informal, comes from the top down :) :) :)

you can say what you like but Jaws still smells of wee wee and cabbage.

As for comments about Bird on ‘other forums’ I too saw a few when I used to occasionally visit. The biggest critic was, in my opinion, the most bigoted and racist ’contributor’ to BIRD, one who cleared off when the matter of the cost of a pint a year to sponsor was raised as well as some of his posts were challenged. Along with a couple of others, good riddance as far as I am concerned, BIRD is better off without them. On the flip side there are a good few who have disappeared which is a shame.

There are only a couple left on here left that I have physically met, but I have plenty time for all contributors (bar the one on my ignore list). Even if most are more than capable of acting like total knobs. Which makes me feel very much at home.

Nope, neither of those.

Davey Bee in my opinion got a rough deal on here as in my view there was at least one overtly racist ‘contributor’ and he stood up to him…it all got a bit out of hand and he ended up on the receiving end as a result of losing his rag with him.

Sorry Andy but he came on here solely to cause trouble, we exchanged a couple of pm’s after he accused me of racism, I even swallowed my pride & extended an olive branch but a few posts later he was back at it accusing everybody who disagreed with him of racism.
