I don't really want to go into it on here, (if u understand)! but its along the lines of we booked a service, cancelled it, lost deposit (which we was prepared for) service now want paying in full or takinging us to court? As I said more to it than that but wanna know if the company's right? do we pay up in full or go to court and lose even more?

My next door neighbour ordered double glazing from a well known firm and paid a deposit. They then heard we were having the same job done by a local company for a quarter of the price. They cancelled their order and had it done by the local firm. They later received a demand from the national firm for the balance even though they had cancelled. They went to a solicitor who said don't waste your money trying to fight it. Pay the balance. Sorry this is not what you would want to hear, BB. Hope your case is different.

Isn't there usually something in the contract regarding cancellation and loss of deposit. Time limits (eg 1 months notice required or payment required in full)?

A few years back friends of our had some double glazing put in, they had paid their deposit then once the windows were fitted, they said they weren't satisfied with the quality of the windows and workmanship (even though there was nothing wrong) they offered to pay half the cost of the windows, after several months of arguing the company accepted, so they got their windows for ?500 instead of ?1000 that they had been quoted
