Tyres in the Tyrol

Hi,

I am heading for the Tyrol region in Austria after Assen at the start of September. The problem is I have just fitted a new back tyre and it will be 2500 -3000 miles old by the time I leave. I don't want to throw away a tyre with so much life left, but the tyre will not last the expected 3000 - 3500 miles it will cover on the trip, especially 2 up with full luggage.

Does anyone know where I can get tyres in the Tyrol region? How much are they? Is it worth bothering? I am staying at Pfunds and Tulfes. Any advice would be most welcome.

Thanks.

Cheers Paul

why not change the tyre before you go and when the "new" tyre is done, have this one put back on!! :dunno:

tyres in Austria?

Austria is not a third world country, you can buy tyres in any large town or city and the prices will be similar to UK, enjoy your trip, take your waterproofs, last time I was there it rained for 4 days, beautiful country, even better when dry!!

If.......

you do decide to risk it with your origional tyres, just remember to have one of the easily available main manufacturer tyre fitted like Bridgestone or Michelin... Dunlop or Avon are a little difficult to get hold of in Austria & Germany, and if you are on either of those they will require you to have both front & rear tyres fitted to match as it is a requirement in Europe that both tyres be of the same manufacturer & fitment.

I found this out last year when I had a rear tyre (Dunlop) explode on me at about 90mph(scary)... We couldnt get a Dunlop rear for two or three days, so we ended up having a pair of Bridgestone fitted so we didnt lose our hotel room & ferry tickets...

Hope you have a great time...Its a wonderful country, and the jhourney there will be brill too

Best wishes,

Rolfy

There is a bike shop in Pfunds - It is 2 years since I was last there and can't remember what they are called but they are up towards the petrol station set back from the main road.
Small and insignifcant looking place but the guys are really helpful. They got a VFR back on the road twice  after one of our group had a couple of offs on the Stelvio and somehwre near Livinio.

There is also a Honda dealer in Imst which is 30 miles down the road from Pfunds. Heading from Pfunds to Innsbruck they are on the right hand side of the main road (A12) along with a whole bunch of car dealers.

and there is

MOTORBAR
Hermine-Berghofer Str. 44
A-6130 Schwaz/Tirol
AUSTRIA
Tel: 05242/63830
Fax: 05242/72654

This address is in Innsbruck, they are not far from the motorway no need to go into the center unless you want to. Even if you don't need anything it's worth a visit to this lot just for the experience.

Personally I would change the half used tyre before you go, you can always put it back on again. A two week round trip to Austria from Scotalnd is approx 4000 miles and if you haven't been before it's better to have good rubber for all the passes. Enjoy it

Tyres

Thanks All for your responses. Decided to get a new pair on before I go, just have to do more miles to wear out the tyres on the bike, which is a bonus. R#? Can't wait to get there only 16 days to go, a day out at Assen WSB then Mosel Valley, Black Forest, Tyrol, and wherever we can make it before the ferry back in mid September.

Cheers Paul
