Travel and Breakdown insurance

bit of a minefield this!

be sure to check your policy wording accurately!

for example... Swintons Travel insurance EXCLUDES Vehicle related claims. so if you fell off your bike and was admitted into hospital abroad
YOU ARE NOT COVERED
(there wording is very subtle, and took one of there reps a few phonecalls to confirm motorcycles were not covered. (it stems from the hiring of bikes while abroad and people falling off and claiming, but also includes your own vehicle)
make sure you get clarification of use and involvement of your motorcycle to make sure you are fully covered

took my cover out here...

specific bike european breakdown cover ( was £24 for 2 weeks cheapest by far)
http://www.vehicle-rescue.com/motorcycle.php

specific Bike related medical travel insurance
http://www.travel-insurance.net/?rfr=TCst (was £32 for 2 weeks. about the only one i could find for motorcycle medical cover)

could be worth a sticky!

You have the same problem with most of the breakdown insurance e.g. AA

They cover you for a vehicle breakdown.

Fall over and break your wrist/ trip over a kerb and break your ankle whilst out on a ride and they don't want to know. (I know from experience when I bust my coller-bone at the Bash a fewyears ago)

I now have Norwich Union recovery which DOES include recovery after this sort of accident.

Come on you Hatters
Just found out that the Breakdown cover that I very carefully selected two years ago hasn't actually covered me in europe for 6 trips, because they listed my van as the lead vehicle which was the only one covered under euro extension.

Have now had to extend cover with both our car and my bike as lead vehicles, and the other half and me are covered for anything else in uk. Managed to get £94 refund from previous two years. And the supervisor I spoke to, say's they will have a training session because most of the sales team still believed I was covered with personal cover extended to europe.

Direct line, which is actually green flag.

Holiday insurance is courtesy of my partners Egg card, and it does cover bikes. Only something like £40 for family cover all year.

I'm trying to sort through the minefield of breakdown insurance.
Since I have two bikes and visit France a few times each year I would like them both covered for both UK and Europe.

Anybody know of a multi bike policy - I keep hearing "you need 2 policies and 2 premiums are payable" . My response of "but I can only ride one bike at a time" doesn't seem to wash!

?8.50 for 10 days in 2006

Am I covered whilst riding a motorcycle?

You can travel on a motorcycle over 125cc only when the rider holds a valid licence which lets them ride a motorcycle of over 125cc.

Otherwise, you are only covered to travel on a motorcycle that has been hired abroad if the engine capacity is less than 126cc.
