Hi mate,
We covered a lot of what you?re planning on our expedition this year.
I can recommend Meersburg for a quick visit on Lake Konstanz and also, if you?re heading anywhere near the Neuschwanstein Castle, have a quick spin around Plansee, absolutely beautiful, won?t take long to see and well worth it. Are you planning (or have you done) to do the B500 on your way to Konstanz?
We did Grossglockner on our way down to the Dolomites, have to say I preferred the ride away from the glacier towards Italy more. Heiligenblut was beautiful. As you say the ride down to Garda from there is superb on a bike, we were a bit stupid and did about 4 or 5 Italian passes as well as the Grossglockner in one day and were well shattered by the time we reached our base for the night.
It?s well worth checking out Alpineroads.com for details of the passes, lots of good info there.
We found some very nice towns and villages in the Dolomites and some very average places too. One that stood out for us was Corvara, but when we go again we won?t worry about booking anything, just stop at the place that takes our fancy, plenty of vacancy signs even in August! The dolomites are beautiful, my favourite mountain range so far, the way they change colour in the evening is just stunning.
We passed Limone but didn?t stop to look closely, it did look nice though, you?ve chosen the better end of the lake IMHO. If you?ve never been, the first view you get as you come in via Riva del Garda is breathtaking.
Are you planning on staying in Trento itself or just passing through?
Have to say I envy you the trip, we went on from Garda to Provence and then up through the Alps, but my favourite area was the Dolomites.
If you need any info or whatever, just ask.
Enjoy!
