What I really object to is group riding cyclists, I was on a IAM rideout and we caught up with a group exceeding 100 riders, they were 4 abreast, oblivious to any other motorists. The road was a twisty B road. We were forced to overtake and nip in (well force) and hedge hop to get past, it was neither safe for the cyclist, biker or any the vehicle. Fookin hilarious for me, scream past a few, anchor on dive in maintain cyclist speed, cog down, scream off, dive in.. there faces as you dived in... Don't know how many behind me fell off and I dont really care.

The IAM chief observer was furious.

Cyclists on pavements

Cyclists on pavements ?'if you think about it properly?? is not a bad idea.

When you drive to work (or where ever) tomorrow take a look at both sides of your roads to where ever you are travelling too ''I think'' for the larger part of your journey you will see there is little use of walkers on pavements.

So take this one stage further why not have cyclists using the pavement on one side of the road only & pedestrians on the other side only, then all road users should be happy apart from Ian :dunno:

Regarding "road tax" for cycles, how would it be implemented? Wheel size, age of rider? Would you suggest a tax on the "toy" bikes for very young children, or just on larger ones ridden by adults?

Thoughts please.

All cycles out on the road should be taxed & insured especially those involved in races and time trials (although I doubt anyone would cover them with the antics some of them get up to)... Also as you have already mentioned they are on a very vulnerable form of transport so perhaps testing and liscensing should be compulsory in some form or other too:dunno: (same as it should be for horsey people riding on the roads)

Keep them on the roads it keeps the cycling population down, if I am walking on the pavement & a cyclist comes towards me on the pavement I usually take one of the following courses of action,

A) Deliberately stand in there way & when they try to get round me I move in their path & make them go onto the road, usually they don't even look to see if it's safe to join the road.

B) If the path is narrow & a cyclist heads towards me I will side step & as they try to pass i will just catch them with my shoulder, some actually manage to stay on their bikes despite wobbling, others are not so fortunate.

I told the kid to fuck off onto the road & play road runner unless he wanted his bike wrapping round his head.

Yes, damn selfish and downright nasty those cyclists aren't they

Come on you Hatters
Cyclists are the fastest growing group of KSi's, I read somewhere a while back. Think they are not far from overtaking us bikers, as our figures are dropping in recent years.
So it's quite likely the government will have to do something with them.

But don't hold your breath. :dunno:

One did. I did. I ended up paying for the repair of his bike and compensation for 8 weeks off work.8rfl@ I can laugh now!:-0)

It happened to a colleague several years ago, if there is a collision between car & bicycle it is deemed to be the car driver at fault whatever the circumstances, probably because it is easier for insurance companies.

They should ALL be registered and have 3rd party insurance.

Just got back from Castle Donnington area after picking my new(er) car up.
TWICE on the A50 (like a motorway for those who don't know it) lorries had to swerve to go round bikes two abreast.

The annoying part was, in one place there was a bike lane right next to the tossers!:bang:
It seems to be a place where speed trials riders practice.

Murt.
