A mate of mine is looking to get a new seat, cos him and his mrs get soar man8um's on long runs. So he wants to know should he have gel implants (in the seat) or just have the bog standard seat. He's heard some stories about the gel going hard and getting uncomfortable.

Seats are funny things.

I sat on a new blackbird at the NEC and it was like sitting on a board.
My seven year old 'bird is very comfortable...
Don't know if it's the standard seat though.

I have absolutely no problems with the standard original Bird seat but I know Carol way prefers the Melboy Bladerunner we use for touring. It has gel inserts. Never had a problem with them in 3 years.

we have a P&P seat

on our Bird, Pete1200 at Blackbird Spares can supply them. It has twin gel inserts and is excellent.

We have in the past had two corbin seats both on VFRs of differing ages. The first seat was more of the foam type, very comfortable and I suppose quite soft. Especially when compared with the second corbin one which was much harder. On first sitting on it you could be forgiven for thinking that it was going to be not much good. However, whatever they use moulds to your bum shape once you have warmed up...............sounds awful!!!!

Personally I like the ones with Gels in, especially for long mileage and if you already suffer badly with numb bums its worth paying a little extra.

Thats from rider and pillion/rider

you will need to go to the link

click on seats in the left hand menu, then click on Viper Touring in the left hand menu, then click on any of the four seat pics, scroll down and there is a selection of seat pics for the bird

Cheers for all the info guys, looks like he's going for a standard Corbin seat.
Birdinflight, I bought my seat from P&P in the NEC I found it to be really comfortable without the gel implants
