What do you reckon guys.I am not a gr8 lover of tank bags in the first place ,and I think the leather tank cover looks pretty dammed ugly. However you can pick up the whole lot on ebay for around 60 70 quid , or shud I just get a magnetic one,Ive got some of that rubber matting stuff to protect the tank.
Why is the baglux system better than an ordinary tank bag ,or is it?
Any comments about this or anything else really :yo:

Baglux

Baglux system is better because it will not slip or damage the tank, different size bags also available.

Baglux

I used a couple of Oxford Magnetic bags for about 2 1/2 years on my Bird, then a Baglux for the last three. Like you I had reservations about the look and one or two other things. Now I'm pretty much a convert and can't imagine not having the Baglux system. Far more versatile than a magnetic bag and more secure, at least it feels that way, which is the important bit.

Easier fuel filling, no paint damage and easy to carry off the bike are other advantages. Just make sure you take the rain cover though !! bl4hbl4h

I "concur" with Steve66, exactly the same experience, I still think cover looks Shiite though!! but that's outweighed by it's usefulness!! :bang:

Well I disagree, I think the two tone cover with the CBR logo, looks the business IMO :yo: (Even though it is two tones of grey, cue 'slow' jibes %$fan )

Looks like you have full agreement on this, I use a Baglux and think they are ace; yes, it spoils the look of the tank a bit, but then again so do scratches. I can get loads of gear crammed in it too.

being of the Larger size in the gut department a tank cover is Priceless otherwise I scuff the tank badly. Had one on the BIRD, CBR 6 and now even managed to get a colour matched one for the blade, brand new off flea bay for ?35 :yo:

Baglux

In fact I like Baglux so much I've ordered one for my car ! It will protect it from stone chips and allow me to have an enormous "roof bag" , :neenaw: I'll get loads in it !

Far better than a magnetic bag. For starters you only have to undo the two rear clips and pivot the bag forward to fill up the tank and i like the padded bits for my knees. Always ride with the tank bag on, that way I dont have to stuff my pockets with glasses cases, mobile phone, visor wipes, side stand puck, dark/clear visor.....

Or with a magnetic bag simply lift the bag and tilt it forward without even having to touch any clips?? :dunno:

And just spend your weekend polishing out the scratches on your tank from all the little bit the magnets pick up

I've got to disagree with ALL the above!! I've been using Oxford tank bags on both my previous birds, 17k on the first one and 29k on the last (75% of which is continental touring), and never scratched the tank! But, for my third bird I read all the crap posted here and elsewhere about the Baglux system, invested in one and now regret it!
Two problems come to mind....1st when washing the bike the baglux tank cover has to be removed and cleaned and the tank dried and polished very carefully to prevent scuffing. Removing it is not that much hassle but re-fitting it can be a pain in the butt!! c7u8 2nd the Baglux bags are all too long for the bird! I tried a few different bags through my local Hein Gerike shop, and found that they all pressed against my chest making me ride with my arms straighter than I like, I'm 5'11" and I've fitted bar risers.

On my next bird, if they are still make them, I'll go back to the magnetic tank bag for touring. Inital adjustments to the magnets and where you mount it, then just a quick wipe to the underside of the bag with a damp cloth before you set off! :yo: :yo:

Glad it's not just me that likes the magnetic bag ..... I do keep looking for these magical bits of metal that attach themselves and scatch the tank ... not found them yet :dunno:

I had a magnetic bag for years but then i tried the Baglux system  love it, won't ride the bike without the cover and rarely ride without the bag, in fact, rarely ride it h1d1ng2

I fitted the Oxford magnetic bag to the Baglux harness by stitching on some 'D' rings bought from Baglux. Its a very versatile bag and cheaper too.
Never again will i use the magnetic bag as it DOES attract crap onto the magnets, i know, i've had it happen and it only takes 1 little fook up to ruin the tank.

I've had a baglux bag and tank cover on my last three bikes now and I wouldn't be without it. I used a magnetic bag for years before and they caused no end of scratching. But, ATEOTD, it's all down to personal preference. To me, the tank cover is one of the first items I buy if I get a new bike and I wouldn't go back to magnetic bags.

You will, sooner or later, usually when you're in a hurry and don't check the bottom (speaking from experience :bang:)

Got a Baglux now (magnetic bag was on the 600) would'nt use anything else.

Oh the baglux cover used on its own is good for clipping the Radio for my Autocomm to and my MP3 player clips onto the rear metal hook thingys on the tank cover

Baglux is the way to go. No scratching of the tank, no messing about at filling stations lining the thing back up - just unclip at the front and hinge backwards. Brilliant.
