Yeh, I got it! I know what they are. Modern form of Gatling.
I was takin the piss:flipa:
Yes and I was being smug with my considerable weapons knowledge :flamethrower2:
I can also provide information on mobility, counter-mobility and sustainability in the modern theatre of war. However I do specialise in ‘stating the bloody obvious’.:p :campeon:

Reading the news this morning I really can't get my head round what is going on in the USA in terms of 'easing' lockdown.

The data suggests they are in the worst position of all at the moment with their 'curves' accelerating upward (albeit the measures are against a significantly larger population than most of the countries that are being reported) yet they seem bent on easing lockdown?

Am I missing something?

Am I missing something?

Not really!

Trump & his government are arrogant as well as stupid, half of the population have swallowed all the government bullshit & still believe nothing can bring the mighty superpower that is the us of a down, the other half either believe they have the god given right to do as they please or are too dumb to understand

That's what you get for allowing a country with a little more than a couple of hundred years history & experience a big voice on a global stage

Well spotted, Andrew. They're probably following the advice of the British government with whom they have a "special relationship". How else could two government's blundering mismanagement mirror each other's so closely?

I refer the honourable gentleman to the answer I gave a moment ago.

Well... arrr.. To be fair they did kick our arses in the War of Independence, and they did save our arses in two world wars, so I reckon some "allowances" should be made, eh?

In all honesty I think the british government is following their advice hence the mirroring of actions, its a special relationship only as long as the yanks are dominant

The war of independence was won though weight of numbers not through any great skill & we were in the wrong anyway, if it were up to me we would have left them to squabble over the place with the French etc long before that

Dunno much about the yanks in ww1 but the Canadians, Austrailians, Indians along with many other nations did more with less imo

In ww2 the general feeling of the whole of the usa was its a not our problem leave them to it (thanks for that) the only entered the war because they were attacked at Pearl Harbour & if the japs hadn't been allied with germany & already waging war together across asia then they still wouldn't have bothered imo

The US approach seems to indicate that they think they have this under control. I hope they are right but I don't buy it. My concern is obviously that they are putting everyone, not just Americans, at risk.

The UK government not talking about coming out of lockdown makes sense to me. As soon as you start doing that then everyone will think the reins are off and we will end up back where we started, if not even worse. The media are banging on that the government doesn't have a plan to come out of lockdown...of course they have a plan, probably with a number of different options that get refined from day to day as the situation unfolds. The right information at the right time is key to managing the situation.

Personally I am all for lockdown going on for as long as it takes to really get on top of this, no matter how hard it is. The worst thing that could happen is that there is a second wave. I know there isn't a simple solution but surely an ultra cautious approach is an absolute necessity?

Yeah - s'pose so. Agreed. (y)

Commentators have always maintained that Roosevelt ("Speak quietly, and carry a big stick".) was just aching for an excuse that would swing public opinion - and Congress - away from isolationist policies, to allow America into the war. I reckon the mob in the OP could have won it on their own with the firepower they've got!

  • Does the government think masks are as effective as social distancing - or are masks not required?
  • How has the government coped with increasing testing for CV-19? What are the current test numbers?
  • What is the government strategy for the provision of ppe to front line workers, both NHS and Private Homes?
  • What is the government's exit strategy?
...Just asking... :icon_popcorn:

Don't subject the poor lad to that, there is only so much bullshit one man can take !

The government briefings have and continue to cover all four points raised. If someone chooses not to believe a word of it then that's up to them.

Something not quite right, I know they have taken to the streets in Michigan to protest at the lockdown but why do it armed to the teeth?
Is this actually a protest against the gun laws or something?
When I looked at the pic, I just thought it was a gun club objecting to the lock down as they wouldn't be able to pursue their hobby.
Same as a bike club would turn up on their bikes!

Are masks needed / do they work?

Like most questions there are really only three possible answers :

Yes
No
Don't know

I really can't recall any government spokesperson giving any one of those.

Out for a run this morning and actually saw a chap in his car (on his own) wearing a face mask. He stopped the car, wound down the window and removed the face mask to ask the postman if he had anything for him.

The last government advice (yesterday I think) was (paraphrased) 'no scientific evidence that they are beneficial at present but this is kept under constant review. However, they are critical for our health staff who have specific guidance on this.' There was a bit more detail but that's the gist.

So is that

Yes
No
Don't know
It's 'we are taking the best advice that we possibly can and at present this is that there is no scientific evidence to say that wearing a mask outside of certain areas is beneficial'.

As an aside, I understand that one of the issues is that masksmthemselves are fertile breeding grounds for all sorts of stuff, and that there are 'masks' and there are 'masks'. I was initially using some dust masks that must be four years old that I got from screwfix that won't be anywhere near as effective as proper medical stuff.

I say again ......

Yes
No
We don't know

Sorry but as far as I'm concerned a politician saying "there is no evidence ..... Etc" is intentional - they don't want to say, yes wearing a mask may well help, but there aren't any.

It's a standard political avoiding a straight answer reply.

Why in this country is there "no evidence...."

Yet elsewhere apparently they are convinced it can help.

I've no problem with them saying it would probably help but we don't have the supplies.
They won't 'cause the next question might be why and every single response they ever give is designed to avoid accountability.

Not just for this, it's every time they say anything about anything. They no longer have any idea what being honest means.

Here’s my take on the mask situation, queueing up outside Lidl for about 15 minutes the other day, there were four people wearing masks, each person must have touched their masks at least 7 times so the germs they’ve stopped going in their mouths/noses are now on their hands to be transferred to whatever they touch.
I have seen colleagues & have probably subconsciously done it myself perform a rub down search on a prisoner then touch their face, I try to avoid wearing rubber gloves whenever possible but I do find myself scrubbing my hands & arms raw.
