I was hoping to leave my 'almost worn out' 020's on for a little longer, at least until just before I went to Assen, but following a puncture in the rear over the weekend my plans was scuppered.

So now they are off and the Avons I've had from Blackbird Spares are on.

Went out for a quick blast last night to begin scrubbing them in and hit some of the local islands, initial feelings and feedback is very good. The sharper profile on the front certainly makes the bike tip in quicker and with a bigger contact patch (as the side walls are flatter) gives a better feel to the front.

All I need to do now is explore how much grip the rear offers when laying the power down in a bend, chicken strip - bye bye.

Me thinks it was a good choice. R#?

Buzz.

Glad you find them good Buzz, not that I expected anything less  I was given a pair of the "B" specific SP's for the recent BMF show, I will keep you all posted as to how I get on with them. We are doing Bruntingthorpe with Performance Bikes mag on Tuesday, so they better be good for 200MPH+

Finally succumbed to the Avons. Rear 020 squared off and had a nail in it and decided on the Avons after reading various threads here.

Only replaced the front 020 a couple of months ago, but a rear 020 was ?125 while 1200Pete offers a pair of Avons at ?160 delivered at http://www.blackbirdspares.co.uk/.

Ordered by phone last Thursday to be delivered to my local spanner man Mr. Pig in Manchester on Friday. ?Ian, have my tyres been delivered?? ?Well, yes and no!? You guessed it ? just a rear delivered! A few frantic phone calls to 1200Pete and courier and assured a replacement front would be delivered Saturday morning pronto!

Sat. morn - ?Ian, have my tyres been delivered? Yep mate, sure have. BOTH of them!? Yes sir ? 2 fronts duly delivered ? it appears the courier company had ?found? the errant tyre and delivered it?s replacement too! :neenaw:

Ignoring the comedy of errors above, I?m glad that I did take my bike in on Saturday. I had already 2 pairs of EBC HH pads for the front [courtesy Jaws], but the rear pads were a shock.

Something like a stone must have wedged in the one side of a pad and it had worn at an angle into a wedge shape so that part of the braking material had disappeared at one edge and was down to bare metal! Luckily, seem to have caught in time as no obvious disc wear. No obvious squealing sound on braking either. Couldn?t do front as matey had no suitable spare pads. Have no changed the front pads after buying pair from ESB, Bolton at ?22.29 inc. VAT. [Rip off eh?] 8l1nd

However the rear wheel bearings also turned out to be on the way out. Spinning by hand and you could hear a nasty rasping noise/whistle from bearings ? luckily matey had spares and changed. OK ? an expensive weekend, but I?m still here. [Hope I didn?t hear booing!] man8um

Everybody to their bikes and CHECK NOW! Both my problems could have had fatal consequences. Stay alert.

BTW ? only done about 300kms on tyre so just scrubbed in ? all feels good to date but no rain yet. I withhold judgement until I ride in the wet. :xm
