sometimes too clever for its own good....

The car has 'Comfort Access' amongst other things the car locks and unlocks itself when the ignition key or mobile phone approaches or leaves the vicinity of the car.

Today I was sat waiting for Mrs A while she did a supermarket run. The car key and phone were in the door pocket. When she came back I leapt out and opened the boot, unloaded the shopping and she wandered off to return the trolley.

When I went to get back in the Car had locked itself with my key inside. I had left the rear windows and sunroof open so I knew at worst I could climb in and get my key, albeit probably setting the alarm off.

When Mrs B returned the car unlocked itself.

Finally realised that she had her key in her handbag and it was that that locked and unlocked the car.

All very confusing if not a bit daft. Nine times out of ten I would have been locked out with my key inside, fortunately this time the other key came back and the windows were open.

Just realised I could have opened it with my phone....oh, that was locked in the car as well.

My son had a GTR1400 - keyless
When he was finished doing some job he decided to do a short run, then decided to get something in the shops.
He was about to park the bike when he realised hadn't the key with him.
Don't know exactly where the keys were.

My boss had a problem like that, he got in his car and drove to a local trading estate. Got out of the car, and went off to talk to someone, went back to his car to discover the key was still at home. Oops, and had to get someone to go and collect the key from home. Embarrassing not being able to drive your - McLaren.

How would it lock itself? Surely the key actually inside the car would class as "in the vicinity". :nusenuse:

Some of them will lock & open with a phone so I presume if its set up that way the phone can override the key :nusenuse:

Maybe it was his wife's key that was logged into the car all along and Beaker was just there as chauffeur.

As explained, I think what probably happened is that the car locked itself as Mrs A walked away from it with her key in her handbag. And unlocked on her key when she returned.

Yeah, but why didn't it take notice of your key inside it?
