Well I picked up my bike from Thetford today.

2001 injection with 19000 miles and seems to be in quite rude health.

Mechanically it has good brakes, chain and sprocket. CCT upgraded. Electirics also sorted so hope to not have too many gremlins to sort.

Run home was "interesting" due to wrong tyre pressures. Now sorted.

I will be fitting all the parts I bought from John in the coming month, there are quite a few!

Bike ran well and looks to fit the spec I wanted.

Tyre pressures were attempted at the services but the lever would not fit so had to take a gentle ride home, all was fine just a bit of a queasy feeling over the ripples in our well maintained roads!

Much better set at 39lb will try 42lb tonight, thanks for that gents.

John- the bike was better than you described and I'm sure will prove a good buy.

Wife - much less hassle from Richard when I was putting all the bits in the car, nuff said!

JAWS PARTS

Well the parts have started to go on to the bike last night. I'll be doing a list as we go and will report on ease of fitting and scoring the benefits all out of ten.

Black Shrooms - replaced the red ones simply for personal taste.
Ease of fitting - 10/10 could not be better. I was replacing like for like but would still be easy if not. 2 minutes each side.
Benefits - hopefully 0/10 as I hope never to use them. ( Bit like my donations to the Essex air Ambulance, never want to use it but want to know it's there if I need it!).
They look good and give a feeling of security if the worse happens, not quite sure about the location on the frame if it's a big one though, could write off the frame?

Miror extension blocks - absolutely vital in my opinion even after one day!
Ease of fitting 9/10 a bit tricky to hold all the bits, a mate helps no end!
Benefits - 9/10 can still see a bit of fore arm/elbow but much better!
Absolutely recommended, a must for your safety and only takes 5 minutes a side.

Now the fun and games will begin !!
It will all start off really easy.. but it will get harder and you have to be really careful and patient ..

The very best person to contact if you have real problems is proly Ian Robbo..
He has done so many now he knows all the wrinkles FAR better than me ( I have only fitted a couple of kits )

When it comes to fitting the straight bars, you might find the throttle cables a tad on the tight side. I did, then I found out that the cables for the carbed bikes are a shade longer, so I acquired a pair from the "Bay of Fleas" for approx. ?5, and Hey presto !, problem solved. @tu*

Straight bar fitting

Gents your advice is as always appreciated.

I have spent the evening removing the bars and first fitting the straight bars, I had a set of Renthals in the garage which I will be using. The quality of the metalwork is really good and I am impressed with the hardware so far.

I am hoping to have the bike up and running by the weekend, unless I need new throttle cables from a carbie of course!

More updates to follow.

Midnight oil!

Well it was a long evening in the man cave last night fitting the Jaws straight bar kit, it's on but I'm not 100% happy I've got it right just yet. As you all know it got harder as I got further into it.

I unclipped the clutch line and the throttle line, I think removing the tab on the clutch master cylinder rear side would aid adjustment on the line and give more movement. The throttle lines catch the bolt that sticks out of the clamp occasionally so a reroute to the other side of the fork may be the way forward.

Again everything I needed was in the kit and all of good quality. I did end up cutting 12mm off each bar end as I want to keep the bikes sporting look but need my wrists as level as possible, still find the bars a bit angled but that may just be where I ended up last night, we'll have a further look in daylight later.

Hope I can finish this tonight and get it ready to use for the weekend. 8rfl@

The "Flat" feel of the bars will take a ride to get used to, but as long as you have a gap between the tank/switchgear and the screen/switchgear you have all that to play with.@tu*

Finishing "touches" - literally.

The bars are just touching the screen wings on full lock, so someminor moving required.

Also the throttle cables still seem a touch tight, has anyone rerouted to the other side of the fork without issue?

Do you reconnect the clutch cable to the frame once everything is tightened up, it looks odd loose as it rides up on full opposite lock?

Ian, the bars feel slightly angled in towards the headstock rather than flat, may need adjusting. I reverted to the JAWS bars by the way as I felt it was easier to keep it all standard, can revert to Renthals or others later if needed.

Thanks in advance.

Just rock the bars back a couple of mm Nigel @tu*
Yes, a lot of folk have routed the cable behind the leg
Clutch line should remain behind the brake line but above the notch trapping the rubber grommet with the brake pipe much as it was originally, just higher..

Bars fitted and adjustment nearly finished

Well as predicted this has been quite a challenge, lots of resetting things and adjustments to be done as you go along.

Ended with clutch line released from clasp and left above the clasp with the rubber grommet still attached. The throttle cables were taken behind the fork and that has given plenty of free play and seems fine.

The angle of the bars was a bit tricky and clearing the screen on both sides was tricky and will probably still be revised again. The end result is definitely worth the effort and I will be testing it out over the weekend.

Riding with the flat bar Jaws kit

Well all the effort was well worthwhile is all I can say, I now have a wonderfully comfortable set up for my wrists, hopefully all day comfortable! The kit is well made and gives a great result for anyone who needs a more comfortable riding position.

There is a need for a higher screen with this kit and also the mirror extensions are vital, but I cannot stress how good this feels.

Only done a 30 mile run out to see how it all works and yes I need to still adjust a few bits to get it just right, but really pleased.

Footpeg kit going on this afternoon. Write up on both to follow.
