getting bike ready for MOT, noticed that the throttle was not returning very well by itself, also wanted to sort out a misfire i was getting every now and then.

Pain in the feckin arse!!!!

to open up the right hand switch gear, you have to remove seat, remove tank, remove coils, remove airbox, you can then get the cables, loosen them right off, then back to the switch gear, loosen cables off that end, disconnect cable, pull off the front brake switch cables, remove inner trim, find connector block under the headlight(righthand side), fight connector block for 20 mins. switchgear is now in my hand!!!

clean and grease springs on the carbs they were a bit feckin minging, nice snapping shut noise now, cables a bit rough, undo the nuts where the throttle cables meet the switch gear, one falls out the other you have to do some kind of pagan dance with 5 hands, both cables out, hang them up lube them with some spray grease, until nice and smooth, undo bar end, take throttle of bar, Feck WTF is that shitty mess on the bar!!!! clean bar, clean inside of throttle, grease bar , grease throttle slide on, nice and smooth, fight cables back into switchgear, put switch gear back on, clean the connector block up, refit, refit inner trim, fight cables back to where they came from, big fight to get them reconnected to carbs, all done, play with throttle , nice smooth return, snapping shut, have coffee.

refit airbox, coils, tank, start bike...... throttle doesn't return FECK FECK FECK!!!

take of tank, coils, airbox, throttle all smooth eh eh eh??? place airbox in place, notice it pushes the cables down and hence causes the inners to rub on the inside of the outer cable. take airbox off, loosen all cables, place airbox back in place, great, all smooth, fix coils and airbox back on , throttle doesn't return, repeat above 3 more feckin times. throttle now returns, fix tank back on, go to start bike, nothing!!! :bang: have strong coffee, remove tank, remove coils, remove airbox, loosen cables off carbs, loosen cables at switchgear, remove inner trim, disconnect connector, remove cables from switchgear, remove front brake cables from switchgear, remove switchgear.

inspect switchgear, nothing standing out, get meter out, check wiring, got broken wire!! from the starter button :bang: :bang: get spare switchgear from shed(brought one last year but didn't need it in the end), refit inner cables, refit outer cables, refit switchgear, refit connector, refit inner trim, refit, front brake cables, refit throttle cables, to carbs, refit airbox, refit coils, refit tank, throttle all smooth, start bike  job done!!

then started on the rear brakes which took about 1hr, where as the throttle saga took over 3.5hrs! :bang:

got up this morning went the MOT station, feckin bastid was locking the door as i got there at 9.00am, he had decide to close shop and bugger off on his bike for the weekend!! arrrggghhhhhh FECK!!

Aint bikes fun

Well I hate to add to your misery ( he said sniggering ) but do you know why cables are not greased any more and are always supplied dry ?

Its cos the grease is absorbed by the nylon inner which in turn makes it expand.. so after a while you nice smooth cable starts to get a tad tight.. eventually they will either get too tight to operate properly or slowly wear through the nylon and cause the bowden wire to snag up..

Sorry mate
