It is.....

the fuel injected equivalent of changing jets and needles within carbs. They are a useful gadget that allows you to play around with the engine control module fuelling maps. The module has various maps within it, and depending what the engine is doing (loads, speeds, throttle position etc) depends which map it uses. The map is simply a set of data that tells the injectors how much fuel to squirt in according to what the engine is doing.

If you just use the PC in it's simplest state, I'd say don't bother.....if however you've added some nice low back pressure pipes, fitted a new free flowing air filter, than you need to get the bike on a dyno with someone who knows how to set the maps up properly for the kit fitted to the bike. Standard maps are OK but a decent tuner will be able to fuel the engine pretty near optimum for all engine loads and speeds and although you probably won't get a bucket load more power, driveability and mid range torque will be noticeably different....and for 99% of road riding it's all about torque....R#?

speedos

ian mate, ALL SPEEDOS ARE PLUS OR MINUS 10 MPH,thats why when the old bill nick you they use a calibrated speedo which is re moved from vehicle once a month for re calibration, i once had many years ago, a 2.8 ex old bill capri, which had a calibrated speedo and that felt dog slow......................another interesting fact from gee

so when my speedo "if and when it's working again" says I'm doing 10mph, I'm either stood still or doing 20mph??? and what differential is the gps system when used in conjunction with the speedo?? :dunno:

no mate. at 10 mph the speedo is probaly only 1 or 2 mph out, but for some reason, due to the incorrect tolerances in mass speedo manafacturing, the tolerances and errors increase as the speed increases,am i repeating meself? anyway i am right about the old bill nicking you wiv calibrated speedos, there must be coppers on this website who will verify this :k

Ian. as you were subtly pointing out

to young (pat myself on the back) Gee (who has major probs with his case key) 10mph and 10% are, except at one specific speed, very different! Some fell on stony ground m8

Regarding the little box you plug in on the BUSA, cop a load of this.

Not only does it unleash the top end performance but it makes the power curve different right through the range.
Mostly bikes are rolling road tested in 5th gear as thats where the power curve is at its best for the job, the little box is programmed such that the BUSA then adopts the 5th gear power curve.
The box makes the bike more linear in its power delivery and gives its full power in all 6 gears reaching a GPS proven 197mph.

Ian my NEW GPS is working fine and dandy..

Infact this man is logged onto BIRD on his laptop and wants you a race to the 2006 BASH....................STARTINGGGGGGGGGG NOW!

The 'T.R.E. mod on the busa is a 15k ohm resistor which connects in series in the gear position sensor circuit, different gears give the ECU different resistance readings..ie.. 1st 5ohm..2nd 8 ohm 3rd 12ohm etc .. 15 K on the busa and on the TL1000 is the fifth gear map and it tricks the ECU into thinking its in 5th gear all the time. The busa and TL's were retarded a bit in the first three gears to calm them down a tad..
fitting a TRE mod doesn't give you any more top end but does give you full power in the lower gears..
Remember tho, if you fit the TRE mod you will loose the cold start map and neutral map as the ecu thinks its in fifth all the time.. if your bikes a dodgy starter as it is it will be harder to start with the TRE..
One of the main reasons why injection is being fitted onto bikes and cars for that matter, its emission control, it is a lot easier to work with than carbs to get them through the new tighter emission laws.. bikes are set up to pass the emissions tests first and foremost and not performance, that's why a re-map on a dyno gives very good results more often than not..

Dont know whether the Injected Birds have been retarded in the lower gears or not but the same will apply that they are set up for emissions rather than performance.. the emsion tests are usually done in the lower gears tho, hence the 15k ohm, 5th gear map..
Laymans terms ..Hope it helps :p
