I got a mail the other day from bash@superblackbird.co.uk saying he has my password, to stay calm and added an attachment (still not opened). Neadless to say it has shit me up slightly and as our illustrious benefactors are a bit slow answering this query I thought I'd open this up for public debate.
Has anyone else rec'd anything like this who can shed light on it?
Bash are you there? If so, who are you? Why have you got my password? What will you do with it? Are you stalking me? Do I need a bodyguard for myself, bike or my pc? I won't be replying to your mail, only through this site.
Come on people, name and shame and get this sort of activity stopped. We don't need it.

I think that you'll find that there is no member called "Bash", my best guess is that its a virus and some hacker has used a best guess to get it to you

1) No one has your password
2) the Blackbird.co.uk domain has NEVER been used to send email at all.

So what you have there is a virus. Plain and simple :p

What happens:
For those that know go away now, for those that wanna know how most viri propogate read on.

Almost all virus are writen with Microsnot Express in mind.. It is a crap mail sorter that is free.. What do you get for free ? Not a lot, so do not expect a lot !
Someone sends you a virus.
You open it. First thing it does is look at your address book.
It will use an address you have sent mail to to hide its own identity ( as in who you are ) and then mail everyone else in your address book with its self.

Sooo, basically you have been in contact with someone who has at sometime in the past sent off for Bash information..
The Blackbird.co.uk addy is used to collect mail, just never to send it..
Any mail recieved from any of the following addresses is almost 100% virus related. All are used to receive mail, none are used to send mail.

Any name@superblackbird.co.uk

Any name@jaws-motorcycles.co.uk

Any name@jaws-motorcycles.com

Any name@hondablackbird.co.uk

Ive also recieved viri proporting from BIRD contacts, someone here is very ill.

Interestingly though, Ive actually shared my personal email with very few BIRD contacts, plus very few have sent me personal email, so I could probably narrow the culprit down to about 5 people!

Chances are it isn't anybody from this site, but a hacker, one of those low life scum who have nothing better to do than f*ck up peoples computers, and programmes, probably a spotty student type who's regarded as the college wierdo who hasn't got a life so takes delight in interfering in other peoples, and if you are looking in pal here's a message to you get on your twist and go, have a ride down to Dover or Beachy head Rev the nuts off your little putt putt, you'll no when you are doing it coz it'll scream just like you do when the bigger boys are shagging your arse. then ride the thing off the F*cking cliffs

For Christs sake

No-one from BIRD has been responsible for this

I think you very much misunderstand both what I and Jaws said, nobody is suggesting that anyone is responsible, however, assuming that this is due to a virus, then the Virus would have had to infest a members computer that has my email address on it, probably because that member has in the past directly sent me an email (or directly recieved one from me), otherwise the virus would not have been able tie my email address to this site in order to generate a 'plausable looking' email.

Same here

Over the last couple of weeks I've been getting emails that have been 'bounced' by servers, supposedly having been sent by me.
They are always 41K/ 42K in size and have a virus in them.
So I've been spoofed by some happy little s***
:bandit: the bastards.

Is it true that if you have 00000000000 as your first e-mail addy, a virus cannot send anything from your addy file? Or is it bollicks? :dunno:

Yup, Ive been getting these, be carefull, these emails are quite clever, they pretend to be a bounced email, but if you click the link to 'read' the bounced email then you get infected!... NOTE they are not a bounced email, they are just emails made to look like a bounced email!

Another feature of these is the way they fake a plausible domain by rehashing your email address, however, if you look at the link details of the link then you will see that its not in fact a link but a command line!!!

Im getting a little concerend, it is possible that its just propogation by multiple infection, BUT, Im beginning to think the problem may be closer to source, ie either site admin having an infection, or someone scavenging the emails from the site.

Jaws, comments?

Firstly

CHILL PEOPLE!

We all know what low lifes get up to in their darkened bedrooms (not you Bert, you carry on). The offening article has been despatched to ether and I recommend everyone to do the same if you have have any doubts about rec'd mails. (Mails from weido banks and "solicitors" in Kenya or Nigeria anyone?)

Secondly.

Biker babe, if you look anything like the picture on you reply then I'm all for f*****g on the edge as long as it's not the edge of a razor blade. Tried that once and kept falling off!

Good Point

Hadn't thought of that. I'm using the spam blocking ability to slowly block off these little s***s.
You've got to admire their abilities, considering I've got Zone Alarm firewall, antivirus and Pest patrol running on my computer. :bang: :bang: :bang:

As an AOL user Simon, no, that is not true for you as the viri will not 'understand' you address book anyway mate..
These automated things are always aimed specifically at the poor buggers who for one reason or other still use Express or similar.

Folks, I would urge you all to ditch express and get an aftermarket mailer.. yes, you might have to pat a tenner for it ( for life ) and yes it might be a bit fiddly to set up, but once done, and used in conjunction with something like the free to download GV virus detector all will be well :p
