I'm getting 36-40mpg, which seems about average, but a bit poor compared to my Falco (which can do 50pmg). My 97 bike has Quill cans and goes like stink. Not sure if the air filter is standard or if the jets have been done, but I think the guy said it had been set up. It doesn't seem to make much difference how I ride (within normal ranges).
I'm wondering whether it's worth having the bike set up properly by someone who knows how to do it. I want the bike for touring, so would like a bit more mpg on the motorway (80-100mph) and when pottering around with the old gits I ride with. I don't mind burning fuel when pushing it faster.
That sound worth it? I'm guessing carbs balanced, new air filter and maybe back on standard cans? I've read the fuel/air mix is poor on the Bird below 6000rpm, which is where I mostly ride it. Maybe I just need to accept what I'm getting?
