Serck radiator fan problem

Has anyone fitted a Serek Radiator with the integral 225mm suction fan to a EFI bird (2004)?

Due to a serious overheating problem on my holidays last year I decided to go the whole hog and fit the above rad - it's a beautiful piece of work and the fan drops the temperature very quickly. However, the fan body hits one of the exhaust pipes. If I leave the bottom mounting free it clears the pipe ok but when I put back the fairing it pushes the rad back that couple of mm and hits the pipe again.
Serek have been helpful but they want me to send the rad & fan back and they'll fit a smaller fan but with my holiday fast approaching I'm reluctant.

I'd be grateful for any ideas - particularly from anyone who has gone the same route

cheers

I still have my oem rad/fan set up. However I'm curious as to what your "serious overheating" issue is. I tour in 90-100 F weather and I've not had a serious issue with overheating. I know some lads have installed a second fan and if I lived in a southern state such as Arizona or S. California and the like I suppose I might have issues. I flush my rad every two years, use Motul Expert/Factory coolant, and Samco rad hoses. Are you sure there isn't another issue. Many alternative coolant choices. Good Luck.

Rad problem

Hi Canadian Bird

Thanks for your suggestions and link

Last year in Toulouse, France in heavy traffic, temperature about 32*C the rad temperature went skyward and the Bird dumped it's coolant

When I returned I checked all the individual components (fan cut-in, cap, themostat, coolant level and strength) and they were all OK, but I noticed that about 2/3rds of the fins on the Rad were flattened - I'd only just bought the bike before the holiday so I'm not sure how that happened - overenthusiastic use of a jet washer can do it.

See you're in BC - I have family in North Van

Cheers

hmmmmmmmmm........ I thought my 03 had heating issues for a while - in hot weather I was having to switch off when stuck in traffic.

However, I am pretty sure the problem was electrical - I was having charging issues, once these were sorted the highest I have seen was 114 last week stuck in traffic with the air temperature well over 35c.

Might be worth running the basic charging checks before your trip:dunno:

I have also installed radiator guards, one for the oil cooler and one for the water cooler. Jaws sells them but I sourced mine on line. I used to use a soft tooth brush to clean the bugs out of the rad not it's much easier with the guards. Rads are expensive. I never take a "jet washer" near my Bird. Good Luck. Perhaps you can take a flat screw driver or the like and straighten the fins.
