Anyone watched this on Netflix? I would recommend it and, having done so, I’ll never eat fish again. Aside from that, it reveals what is potentially the biggest cause of climate change.*

It’s also something that pretentious little twats like Greta Thunberg should watch. They might learn something.

*I have to say ‘potentially’ because I’m not a scientist and have not conducted any research myself. What this documentary reveals though is quite compelling and very thought provoking.

It would not make the slightest difference
Her and her ilk have an extremely blinkered agenda they will not deviate from ( word wise .. of course their actions belie how they little they are physically committed to the cause )

What’s the bones of the issue Paul?
Where to start.........

Dolphin friendly fish is a lie. Observers seldom attend vessels to check out that no other species are harmed, so there’s no way of knowing.
The companies behind so-called prevention of polluting the oceans with plastics are the same as those behind the dolphin-friendly label. The real message to save the oceans is stop eating fish but they won’t say that because one of their companies is there to encourage us to eat more fish.
Dolphins and sharks are deliberately killed to stop them plundering fish stocks.
Plastics in the ocean, whilst harmful, is not the biggest problem. Fishing is.
There is no such thing as sustainable fishing.
Whales washing up on beaches have stomachs full of fishing nets.
Farmed salmon is a joke. The meat is actually grey and is dyed to make it look like normal fresh fish. This fish also swims in its own excrement and is full of nasty shit like antibiotics.
There is no nutritional benefit in shark fin soup yet millions are killed just for their fins.

I could go on but the long and short of it is that the corruption is of an epic scale and, if it continues, there will be no fish left by 2048.

Taking out the main predators at the top of the food chain, leaves the next layer at the top, which allows a peach layer to move up until there’s none left. The fish shit, which feeds the corals is no more, the corals die. Those, and other marine life/vegetation, hold more carbon than anything else. The crux of it, if the ocean dies then we die.

There’s enough holes in the above for any smart arse to call me out and say “yes, but...”. I get that but I can’t keep every single detail in my head. Watch the programme and see for yourselves.

Agreed. As one of the boys put it the other day (Cougar or JT, I forget), they’re unable to think outside the emotional spectrum. However, when the facts are right under their noses and they ignore them, it really makes me wonder what their agendas are.

Switching from petrol/diesel to electric cars and buying re-usable coffee cups is not going to stop global warming.

Thanks for the précis Paul, I haven’t got Netflix any more but glad there are factual documentaries being made on the subject.
Fishing, the mechanism of catch and fish farming is indeed an issue of enormous environmental impact that if not addressed will have catastrophic consequences for all life on this planet, people need to be more informed of this symbiotic relationship.
The situation you describe between companies pretending to oppose each other while having a finger up each other’s butts sounds like nothing more than the managed opposition strategy that is commonly deployed in so many areas nowa days, Sounds good achieves feck all but the intended predetermined outcome.
And as for the finning of sharks don’t get me started .

I remember in the 70’s Gas was being pushed as a cheaper & more sustainable option to electricity in cooking etc, the experts warned that there was only enough fuels to power electricity for about 80 years, then came the real frighteners like “used engine oil is carcinogenic” red meat is carcinogenic, margarine is safer than butter, I remember the adverts for benecol, I was on a tea break at work & slathering my jacket spud in butter when a colleague said “you should use benecol, it’s high in polyunsaturates” I asked him what a polyunsaturate was, he had no idea. We are fed information to suit the big companies to such an extent we become oblivious to the truth.

Remember the row over the decommissioning of an oil rig when the company wanted to take it out to deep water and scuttle it the environmental lobby won the propaganda war and it was towed to a Scandinavian country to be cut up,
a survey done in the aftermath of this action found more environmental impact than if they had gone along with the original plan.
A while back on here the Torry canyon disaster was mentioned what wasn’t mentioned in the press at the time was that the use of aggressive chemicals in the clean up caused more ecological impact than if they had let the oil disperse naturally, people were more worried about the tourist trade than anything else.
