Hi All,

I'm just in the process of planning a 4 day trip round Scotland in August. I've read Grapefruits thread and appear to have planned a similar route....

Head up the west coast from Lochgilphead via Oban, Eilean Donan Castle, Gairloch and as far as Upper Badcall. From there plan to head back south via the cairngorms, loch tay and dukes pass.

We're stopping in Dumfries on the Thursday night. My question is whether it's worth heading west on the Friday morning through Galloway Park on the A712 then north on either the A714 or B7027 to Girvan and up the coast to Ayr.

Other option would be head direct to Inveraray, enjoy the fun roads from there onwards and spend the time saved elsewhere.

Cheers

Andy

since you are doing the dukes pass from callander to aberfoyle the best thing to do is head to balloch and then cross the erskine bridge and head for ayr and girvan then down to dumfries ( you wont be doubling back on your self) then from dumfries you could cross to moffat and st mary's lock and the borders.

alot of folk go under the arches at inveraray to loch awe and miss out some great roads from lochgiphead krinan to oban

Wolfie's idea is a good one Erskin bridge head down coast road Greenock, Ayr, Girvan, Newton Stewart, Forest, Loch Ken, Castle Douglas, by pass to Dunfries and Gretna still not had time to write up our trip but at last have started hope to get it done during next week some video clips on You tube and lots more to add when I get time check out GrapefruitsXX1100 on you tube Loch Leven south shore (the music does start afetr a while honest) and Lecht Road are the better ones

Cheers gents.

I'll have a look at adjusting the route to take in ascars and wolfies tips.

Looking forward to getting out on the bird for a decent run I've had it for over about 6 weeks now and been so busy I've not had a chance to get out on it much.

just come back from scotland myself, didnt think much of he lochilpead to oban rd to be honest.thought the road from fort william to kyle of lochalsh was fantastic.quite a bit of road 'dressing' going on at the moment and the ones that have been done, bit wary of any loose gravel knocking about.went up to duntulm isle of skye as well, beautiful.only went for four days myself, just wish i hadnt bothered going the west coast of the lakes first as i have done that a couple of times before, should have just gone straight to fort william the first night then i could have got further north in the time i had.hope the weather is good for you
