Tom Tom 5 - help is at hand
Unlike the rest of you you who seem to be having problems, I also upgraded to V5 and found it to be much better.
I was using a Dell Axim 5 (later stolen after my off in Spain so now have bought a Dell Axim X30 and it works great).
At first I did find V5 a little confusing, but after playing around with it for a couple of hours and delving deep into the menus, I found it to be much more user friendly. The itinery planning is much better and very configerable.
I used this to plan each route every day in Spain and it never let me down once. Bert will confirm this. This only problem I encountered was where there was poor satalite coverage - but even Berts Garmin suffered from the same problem.
If its falling over it can be one of two things.
1 - you have other things running in the background using up memory.
2 - it dosent like third party add ons such a speed camera locations.
3 - the GPS aerial can be breaking down (I had this problem with a GPS aerial that plugged into the CF card slot - the vibration caused it to crash as soon a I started moving). I repleaced the aerial with the Tom Tom hard wired one and problem cured.
4 - the car PDA holder will break internally (printed circuit board) due to virbation if used on a bike. To cure this open up the holder (four screws on the rear) and with a hot glue gun, seal all the compents together, effectively encasing them in a resin block. This stops the vibration of compents and cures that problem. (did this with mine)
Take off all software and reload it fresh. Gets rid of all old clutter and provides a cleaner system.
If none of this helps, chuck the fecker in the canal.
