our postage prices is good value considering most things do get there within 1 week,i sent 4 poascards from portugal in july, the quickest took 3 weeks, the longest took 5 weeks! ok so it was a little cheaper than royal mail charge but then i can see why and i sent them from a post office!

As a BIG user I would agree the charges are bloody good value..
At least they would be if what was promised was actually delivered ( no pun intended )..

Sorry to say that for the past 3 years the postal service has become progresivly worse and worse..

Yes, there are occasional; spats of goods service where a letter will get where it is going in a timely manner..
But I send a LOT of parcels out by first class post.. Only a tiny percentage makes it to its destination within THREE days..

I now no longer use PO services for anything over 9 kilos where as I used to use it all the time.

Come complete deregulation time I suspect PO is gonna have to either accept its services are pants or fold up their tents and leave it to the professionals ( no slight meant to you Chagoi ! :p )

I have bought 10 packs of 12 first class stamps at the old price.... Saves a fortune...LOL

Thats why they dont put a price on them now, so that they can change the price without a reprint of the things... and I thought I wuz tight...LOL

Must agree with the rest though... Its really good value most of the time... Most of the stuff gets to us right on time.. and occasionally not broken.

Cheers,

Rolfy

Bring 'em on!! :shooter:

When you want to send a letter to a little village 30 miles from the nearest town do you honestly think TNT or whoever are gonna charge you 20 odd pence to deliver it. I don't think so!!

Perhaps I'll donate a pack of stamps to the Bird Bash auction cos they may be a collectors item soon. :} :} :}

Postal prices don't bother me much. It's when they slap ?4 handling charge onto a parcel because there was ?4.15 duty to pay. :shooter:
?8.15 charge to bring a ?23 item in from the USA.

Who do you think will deliver the mail form TNT et al? Why RM of course, 'cos the others have no network. They are allowed downstream access to RM's network by the regulator at a pathetic price, set by said regulator. RM still as to deliver to all addresses each day for one price, but the competition do not. Fair competition? I don't think so. Deutche Post are allowed to compete in this country, but we aren't in Germany - eh? So much for the single market.

Those with long memories may remember that this is exactly how the government of the day shafted the railways 40 odd years ago. Be interesting to know how many MPs have a financial interest in the new mail firms!

In most of Europe, there is not a requirement to deliver all mail every day - and the prices are higher!

Post.

Its not just the postal service that a rip off other firms do it as well.
I wanted a tyre valve extention for the bike and contacted the only place I knew that had one, who was MPS. They wanted ?20 to deliver a valve that weighs an ounce at the most, just by accident I spoke to Jaws and he got me one and only charged me ?1 to send it to Spain (thanks John).
Also I think some eBay sellers make more than a quick bob or two on the postal charges.
OK whinge over!

It is actually against Ebay rules to over charge for postage..
If I am gonna bid on something that the postage is a joke on, I ALWAYS both report the item to Ebay and ask them seller if they have not made an error ( suggesting the correct payment at the same time )

Whilst there is no doubt at all some people do it deliberately, many simply do not know and are happy to change the costs when the issue is pointed out.
Only yesterday I mailed a chap called Jacob as he had posted a ?20 postal cost ( for an item weighing less than a kilo ! ) He immidiately amended the post and said oops :p A proper genuine person who was unaware... Perhaps it would be helpful if Ebay posted a list of postal costs.. in fact that would feck the scammers up completely !

11.30 Sunday morning, knock on the door, it's the postman with two parcels for our lass.
our lass say's "post? on a sunday? the postman replies, "because of the snow we have a backlog so we have all been called in to get the deliveries out.
all credit to the Royal Mail, still the best in the world.

It's traditional......

...........to knock those institutions that just quietly get on with job.......

If you accept that nothing is perfect, then, by and large you can be happy.

30p to deliver a letter from just about anywhere in the country to just about anywhere in the country usually by next day ? What more could you possibly want ?

If you're that tight - fekking email or fax it

a 2p rise is quite acceptable I am sure.. 'least it would be if they did what they say they would.
I think you are missing the point a little..
My personal issue is not the cost as the lack of service..
being big and clever and going out on Sunday is quite frankly NOT going to impress me.

If I tell someone I will do x thing in x time and it will cost x much, it is reasonable for that person to expect me to deliver what I have promised.
Unfortunately the PO does not do this on more occasions than it does.

So basically by having a Sunday delivery they are merely trying to do what they have promised us all..

And given I pay them ( on average ) in excess of ?500 a month for postage I feel I do have a fairly good reason to speak out !

My wife sells quite a lot of stuff on Ebay, and we usually take the parcels to the village post office, admittedly the parcels are not excessively large or particularly heavy, but we have only had one instance of a parcel going missing and that was one sent to Ireland, we normally post second class unless the buyer requests first class, and it has been known for us to take a parcel to the post office at 3pm and it to arrive next morning, I have ordered items and the seller states they posted them on such and such a day but it takes two weeks for the parcel to arrive on my doorstep, but this has been down to seller telling porkies.
I have only had one instance of a Postman complaining about the amount of parcels that we receive, so I just informed him that while there are people like us he will always have employment, he requested to be moved to another area.
