route to bash

Anyone have ideas on best route to bash from fishguard.
Route planners suggest Fishguard -Swansea-Cardiff-Birmingham-Cambridge-Thetford = 340 miles.
The road map suggests Fishguard-Aberystwyth-Shrewsbury-Telford-Birmingham and on to Thetford = 302 miles.
Does anyone know of any problems with either choices & should I stay away from the M6 as has been suggested by a workmate, or is there other routes.

John, although this is a slightly longer route and almost all motorway you can dial in an indicated 90 and just go.. It might not be the most scenic route but once you cross the bridge it is a really fast route to take and one I have used several times mate..

This route is like going from Dublin to Belfast via Galway
The easiest most direct route is
Fishguard A40 / A48
Swansea M4
Cardiff M4
Bristol M4
To the M25
Clockwise to M11 Northbound
A11 to Thetford

BRILLIANT RESPONSE - BUT IM STILL LOST
HAVE TO BOOK FERRIES EARLY AS BASH IS ON A BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND IN YOUR REPUBLIC, & I
WANT TO BE ABLE TO BOOK HOTELS ON ROUTE AND RETURN AS THERE IS NO WAY, AT MY AGE, IM DOING 300-350 MILES IN ONE DAY.
SOMEONE MENTIONED THE M25 - I THOUGHT THIS WAS A PARKING LOT- MUST I REALLY GO THIS WAY.

so how would i plan the routes for my works fleet without the planner????? ?30 for a planner is a lot cheaper than ?200 for a gps system x 8.
