Rossi, how good is he

How good depends as much on the level of competition at the time.
Looked to me like he somehow had extra power on tap and that's waht got him the win. The rest of the course he was having a hard time of it.
We should have a poll on just how Sete manages to do so much hard work and then chuck it all away.... well at least he's consistent I guess.

1. I would say moving from Honda to Yamaha was a great feat and deserves credit but that's all..... but Lawson changed camp and had crap bikes and still won.
2. Take Burgess away and see how he fares.
3. Crowds at Donny nowadays just about reach 70.000 peeps but in the Rainey/ Schwantz/ Doohan era crowds of 120.000 plus was the norm.

he is a great rider,and as graphite says...would he be as good without burgess?who knows.as for the riders around him and/or their ability...same could be said for any of the "greats" and the riders around them surely.as for the crowds at donny,well,more to do with the poor organising/shit facilities/prices there is my guess :dunno: .it will be interesting to see how it all goes when pedrosa moves up to moto GP next year.

Ok the results of the poll are in with two votes stating that Rossi is Gay, and 15 stating that he is the greatest rider ever. proving that Rossi is indeed Gay, and that as the membership on here runs into thousands and only 15 think he is the greatest rider ever then the rest must feel that he isn't even worth voting on, so we can conclude by saying that Rossi is NOT the greatest rider ever. so there...

Valentino Rossi offered Yamaha the best possible present for the Japanese manufacturer 50th anniversary, clinching his second consecutive title on the YZR-M1. Valentino Rossi?s second MotoGP crown with the tuning-forks brand is the twelfth time the factory has won Grand Prix racing?s premier honour, the Italian adding his success to those of an elite club of legendary names that have helped Yamaha contribute to some of the most memorable moments in the history of the sport.
Amongst Yamaha?s past World Champions, the man most comparable to Rossi in terms of talent, charm and racing achievement was Giacomo Agostini, the first true megastar of MotoGP. The Italian won his last 500cc title for Yamaha in 1975 and has taken extra pleasure from watching the rise of his country?s new hero, the first Italian to truly dominate the sport since Agostini?s last victory at Brno in 1977.
?Valentino is the kind of talent that comes along to any sport only once in a generation - there isn?t a Bobby Charlton born every year!? says Agostini. ?The Italian people waited 20 years for the next Agostini and Valentino has given them great happiness. With Rossi taking the title for the fifth straight season and having already signed up with Yamaha to defend it at least once more, Agostini is well aware of the extra difficulties faced when trying to stay at the top of such a demanding sport. ?I think the motivation Valentino has shown this year is a demonstration of his love for the sport,? he says. ?The quality of the opposition is strong but Valentino has something extra. By moving from Honda to Yamaha he made a similar switch to me, when I went from MV Augusta to Yamaha, and he has kept his motivation high. He has shown his riding talents on different machinery over the past few seasons in MotoGP...?

When all said and done it is down to personal opinion, some people actually believe that David Beckham is/was better than an average footballer, just cos he could cross a ball and take free kicks.
Some people believe that Damon Hill was an exceptional racing driver, cos he won a world championship in a car that was way ahead of the oppositions.
