What's with the roadworks recently...?

A whole raft of small roadworks have sprung up in our area in the last week or two.
Every one of them is on a main commuter route, so guaranteed to create maximum distruption.

I pity the poor sods who have to do the work at this time of year.

Around here too
To get on our estate there are three roads.. two were dug up up last week and stayed closed for 5 days.. So to get to the Hermes drop point meat a 2 mile journey instead of 1/2 mile, involving the old A11 which they also dug up and had temporary lights on.. It has been bloody chaos

I just don't understand the logic.

The weather is crap - which means more cars on the road than the summer, plus piss poor conditions for the workforce to work in.
The roads are busier - more people taking days off work to do their Chrimbo shopping, plus those folk who managed to knock off early for Chrimbo.
There is less light at this time of year - which means that they either start later and finish earlier, or more likely.....work in half light and darkness, which can't be too safe.
