Interesting Road safety

Good or bad news?

Some interesting ideas but I think some of them rely on the driver's good will and alertness or the vehicles automation, taking the choice away from the driver.

For example, the driver waiting on a narrow road fr an oncoming vehicle, can't see that happening often. The emergency vehicle approaching again can be good or bad depending on the driver. Many times I've seen a car driver slam the brakes on because an ambulance is coming towards them & have witnessed a driver stop on a blind bend to allow a police car past o_O.

I can't imagine the chaos some of these systems would cause with many incompetent drivers that seem to use our roads today.

I found that really interesting…not least as my car did an impressive emergency stop when a car flew across a mini roundabout as I was entering it this morning! The car reacted quicker than I did.

Quite a lot of that stuff is already available and in my view is fantastic as long as it is used as a supplement to observation and control rather being relied upon totally. I use the variable speed limit thing all the time, the car slowly decelerates to meet the new speed limit at the precise point it comes into force - the only issue is that those that don’t arrive at the new speed limit at the correct speed. In other words it would be perfect if everyone used it.

The reality is that all vehicles will go ‘driverless’ at some point and the technology displayed in the video is needed to make that happen.

I can see a few drawbacks, if two vehicles are driving down a country road and both drivers stop to allow the other to pass they could be sat there a long time :nusenuse:

More importantly if a car alerts you to emergency vehicles will it alert you if you are being tailed by an undercover vehicle :nusenuse:
