Great old stuff.

I had an off on my Fazer on mud deposited on the road by vehicles accessing a building site. I claimed off the builder who told me to 'go away', reported the mess to the council who threatened to close the site down if they didn't keep the road clean.

Didn't get my damage paid for but it felt good.
My friend had paid a deposit on a new build, we went on our respective bikes to view, his was an RD250 mine was a 250 Superdream, as we entered the site Bob had an off after hitting some spilt stone, a quick word with the site manager led to a lack of interest until Bob pointed out he was buying one of the houses & may have to get his deposit back to pay for the damage, result, damage fully paid for by the building company.

How long ago was this?

Those that deposit mud and other debris not only have a legal obligation to cover any costs for damage and so on, but they can also be prosecuted.

If it was in the last 20 years or so (or longer) then the builder could not escape their legal costs and obligations.

Had someone been injured, they would really have been taken to the cleaners and the principle is no different for damage only incidents.

Had something similar a feew years ago. Low sided on oil while turning into a carpark. The garage next to it was using their forecourt to spray clean the engine bays of pickups, vans and other commerical vehicles and the oily water was flowing downhill and pooling at the carpark entrance.
Insurance company's appointed solicitor basically gave up after a few months. He said that there was little chance of a claim. Turned out later that he was a Legal Executive in training.
A while later the garage went bust. I like to think that their solicitors fees help with that.
