now as a lot of you out there in "munchkin land" will know, I'm not the type to throw my hard earned about willy nilly, so what I am about to impart to you lot is meant to be "just my expression of disappointment" regarding one of England's most cherished establishments shoving it up the british public once again,!!
Duxford war museum,!!
normal entry fee is ?12 per adult ?9 per pensioner and kids go free,!! pretty reasonable and I'm quite willing to pay that, as these places do need a lot of looking after,!!
however, if they have a "flying" day of any description like next weekend "when I planned to take the family" for instance the price literally doubles!!! ie adult ?25 pensioners ?25 and kids ?14, now I understand these things have to make a profit but to increase the fees by that much is imho nearly as bad as the hotels that "upped" their charges on the night of the bombings!!
so from an "affordable" ?33 quid day out plus petrol, it would (if I was still going) have cost me ? 103 plus the juice!! and on top of that whilst your "in" the hangers and looking at the displays you cant watch the "fly pasts" :dunno:
just thought you'd like to know!!
pretty pissed off from Wakefield!!

If you think that is bad....

Try going to RIAT... Royal International Air Tattoo at Fairford... Adult tickets are ?35 .... And believe me, it will take you about 2 hours to get in or out....unless you get there at 0500 and be at the front of the queue or go it on the bike...

I used to be a regular at Fairford, but I cant justify that sort of price for me and the family...?140 for a day out... I dont think so.

If you want to go to Duxford, go on a regular day... It will take you all day to get round it... ANd folks will have time to chat & explain stuff to you... Just beware, the renovators do like to talk about their aircraft...Once you set them off its hard to shut them up again...

Best to you & family Ian,

Cheers,

Rolfy

If
am working at riat this weekend - go on a bike, take a picnic, and stay outside the fence near the end of the runway - loads of bikes there. seen a blue bird on both days so fay - anyone from here? i think riat is a good day out - but i'm not sure i could justify the money to take a whole family.

raf museum at hendon is also worth a look - got some fantastic planes just in there - including a lancaster and a vulcan

Its the same at Donnington. Turn up and camp for the weekend ?101 and be treated like shite. The programme is going to set you back probably another ?10 and no entertainment. And from some who went last year the 'security' were confiscating gas bottles !!!!

Le Mans in May 60 euro for the three days with free camping and they even provide the firewood... oh yes there is a free programme with lap time/ grid position updates on race day and rock bands stunt shows in the evening.

Me I'm going to stay home and watch it on the box...
