In my original post I never said I did not enjoy the ride/journey, it was more to do with cost, lack of holidays, wifes business sufers (also no holiday pay) in fact we have done it many times & really enjoy it.
Their is that added problem of, if you do see some where on route that you fancy a look round, is leaving all your luggage on the bike (security), how ever I normally get around this by paying for parking and making sure it's parked next to the ticket sellers box, 'it's worth a couple of Euros for peace of mind".
What I was trying to put across was in this day of very low cost air travel we/you may be able to travel further afield in less time, at lot less cost and hiring a bike at your destination, than taking your own and be able to go to work next day after getting back refreshed (not knackered).
If you see what I mean :dunno:

life and biking are the same......its as much about the journey as about the destination. if your holidays are all about the destination, then fly. otherwise chill, and enjoy the journey there as well.
