Hi All, i need to know if anyone has used a Renntec sports rack with a Givi mounting plate to fit a Givi/kappa topbox of approx 45/46 ltr size?

I will be using soft luggage panniers also, as going to Scotland max room req!

Please reply asap as offer of monorack/box ?199 quoted with limited time.

Main issue is fitting of mtg plate to sports rack & handling/safety. Thanks Phil.

I use that set up with a Maxia top box and other than the usual sensation of having a fridge hanging off the back of the bike, that you get using a top box, it's fine.

Doesn't seem to induce any weaves at any speed.

Fitting the plate to the renntec requires some mods to the givi clamps as they are narrower that the gaps between the renntec bars. At first I was worried that it may not all stay in place, but so far it has.

Hope that helps.

Question to Lebowski

Thanks 4 quick reply, need 2 know which plate used, ie Givi M3 or Universal lattace look type?

Also what size Maxia used ie 36/45 ltr? Sorry 2 be specific but these details matter. I presume you leave plate attached permanent to rack using pipe clips ?

I use the lattice type one with the 52 litre top box.

You get a cover to hide the bolts with the plate, although I have left it off so that I can remove the plate quickly and just leave the rack.

As I say the fittings givi supply aren't perfect but with a quick mod in a vice, it can be made to work, although 'one day' I'll make up some better ones.

Plate query

Thanks again, but 1 final question. The plate you describe must be the Givi E250 abt ?33 from Busters, does it hang off alot from the Renntec rack? You say you take it off so it must look odd on its own!

The reason i say this, as i don't intend leaving the box on !!

STOP!

The Renntec rack is designed to carry something in the region of 2 ~ 5 kg - the idea being you strap your lunch box/lightweight over trousers to it.

It is NOT designed to carry a box.

The loads and stresses imposed on a Renntec carrier will cause it to fail - the most common failure being it shearing on the welds.

Use a Givi carrier - that's what they are designed for.

Please feel free to ignore me but why not call Renntec tomorrow morning on 01202 826722 and ask them about their carriers and maximum recommended weights.
