:violin:Not been on here for ages so hello again, I have moved back south so enjoyed a great summer!
Anyway, I think I have got a duff rec as I went out last Sunday and had a stench of rotten eggs follow me around...it definately was not the curry the night before!

2 questions am I right to suspect the rectifier and is it easy to replace as I don't mind spanners and screwdrives but I do get turretts when they come out?bl4hbl4h

and fitting is a piece of p@tu*

BUT personally i would check the output from the generator while sorting this lot out - possibly the generator failing that is causing the problems so replacing the reg/rec and battery will only delay the invitable if the gen is knackered.

Plenty posts on here on how to test using a multimeter, again very straightforward

And when all done as AndyBird said, solder out the reg/rect and alternator connection.

Good chart in the main but the bit about checking the resistance of the coils ?

Every time I see this crap it boils my blood.

The charts are usually put together by people who know little about electronics for the average person who knows even less ( and why should they know about a subject that can be obscure ! )

To accurately read a resistance to within 5/100th ( 1/20th ) of an Ohm you will need a decent scope, leads and an absolute rock solid, completely stable PSU

Even the most expensive hand held multi meter is unable to make such an accurate measurement ( actually that is not true.. I recently saw a demo of a meter now being used by some military biased groups that can do it. but given the unit cost is £18k plus, I somehow doubt the average biker will haave access to one ! )

Yes, you meter might APPEAR to read that close, but there is absolutely no chance...

But yes, the flow chart is a good way to do the tests

on topic post.............

2 things you need to look at first before you spend dosh on stuff you don't need

check the stator to RR connector

and the connections on top of the solinoid

i would guess that 50% of RR's and Stator's that have been replaced where not needed.............could be wrong but not 100% wrong lol

Smedly you need to sponsor the BIRD club to be able to PM. It don't cost a lot ?15 per annum or ?20 for deluxe.

Or you'll have to email Jaws.

Sorry .. no PM received..

and the answer to my question ? do you have slave cylinder seals and if so how much for delivery to UK

Got it sorted, just removed the whole thing and gave it all a good clean, now back to normal with the original slave piston seal, I think it just got so dirty in there it began to leak
