Thanks Centaur
will ring you this morning
Reason changing the loom seemed a good idea was

1) I thought it would surely fix it!
2) The old loom was cut where it went into the rectifier and fitted with individual connectors so it was on my long term list of jobs to do anyway

third and finally I am not good with electrics sadly!

Don't be facetious ya twat. There is the possibility until proven beyond doubt that the secondhand loom could have been bought from some crafty ladyparts that decided to get shut cos his brake light wasn't working and fitted a new one...maybe a few more looms before trying out your suggestion eh.

Bloody fixed it!

Sincere heartfelt thanks to everyone who has helped with suggestions

Ian robbo came round today and helped me fix both brake light problems and reassemble the plastics etc _ what a great guy!

Why am I 57 and still learning stuff!

One new loom later, and 4 days of frustration
Changed the rear brake switch (a third one) and it worked and fixed the front as well. Don't understand it but very happy its fixed, got shiny new MOT and re taxed the bike. Now I can go out and play this weekend in Wales in the pissing rain with a severe weather warning in force.

My learning point is simply this, when one is in the habbit of buying spares "just in case" you need to fit them and keep the known working bits as a spare, that way you are sure they work and save lots of hassle if you buy faulty ones. You will know and can send them back, I suspect there are scrotums out there that sell their known faulty bits after they go wrong!

Thanks again everyone

Grant
