I am in the process of giving my bike 1999 CRR1100XXX a through winter service, I have done valve clearances etc, as my bike has always run hot I thought I would give the rad a good flush out and clean, but it is a bit of a state, the fins between the link pipes are either clogged up or broken away all together, Secondhand rads seem a scarce and they could be as bad as mine, does anyone have any ideas, has anyone fitted a rad off another bike, can the fins be replaced etc..

Having had a good look at my radiator I have decided to replace it, I looked into getting it recored, but it was going to cost nearly £400 however I did it. The cost of a Genuine Honda one is beyoond my reach. I am not prepared to take a chance on a secondhand one, I found these for sale : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aluminum-...rcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43b2b0fd12

so at less than £200 including postage I am going to give a go !!

@tu* Please, let us know how you get on, fit, build quality etc I suspect there's a few bikes that are feeling their age in this department!!:dunno:

Edit, don't forget to let us know what the import taxes are, as these often raise the price to silly levels.

I will certainly keep everyone informed when I get it, yes the import tax thing is an issue yes, but I will see what happens there ! If the postage wasn't included I would have had it sent to my Brother who lives in the states, and then got him to send it to me as a gift, but as the postage was free I won't bother, I have only had to pay Tax once when I got a screen for my Dad's Pan European, so keep fingers crossed for me. I think it will be economic however it turns out ..

Next up will be to buy a Grill for it, any recommendations ?

I rang aaron radiators but they wants nearly £400 to re core my rad ..

Anyway the good news is that I managed to ease the stubborn exhaust nuts and studs out, so having warmed up the nuts to remove them from the studs, cleaned up all the threads, fitted new nuts with Copaslip, and refitted them I now know that I can get the exhaust headers off if need be ...

Well the Radiator arrived today (Thursday) ordered Sunday , early indications are that it is not too bad, obviously not too Honda standard but should do the job, have had to drill another hole in the bottom fan mount bracket - on the fan not the rad - to get that to line up, came with a cap, only problem I can forsee is that the two small pipes near the neck are a bigger diameter but I can get over that...

Will take some pictures tomorrow before I fit it to my bike ..

PS Didn't have to pay any Tax duty - it came direct from Shanghai - not the USA..

Can't comment on how it fits yet as it is too cold to get in the garage, get all my other bikes out to get my Blackbird in a position so that I can work on it.
It looks like it should be OK though, my only worry is the two small pipes near the radiator neck that look bigger than on the Honda radiator ..

Looking good@tu* LOTS of weld on it, is the rad slightly smaller than the original or the mounts just slightly different??:dunno:

The radiator is exactly the same size as the original and the mounts seem to be in the right place - haven't tried it on the bike yet - perhaps it is the colour that makes it look different !

Looking at the pictures I can now see that the bottom fan mount is different which is why I had to drill another hole in the fan bracket to get it to fit ..
