A couple of weeks ago the Tour of Britain was on (you know push bikes). I was standing outside work one day watching them come past as you do and noticed the race had 10-20 outriders, mostly police but some were officials. Some police riders used blues and twos, some not, but all including the officals were easily doing over the limit (40) and a few were doing 30+ over the limit without said blues and twos. My question is this, is it possible for theses riders to be prosecuted for speeding to make a point that speeding is dangerous and kills!!! ? :bandit:

Quite right and maybe the Plod whom overtook me on the M1 last night, I was doing 95, by rights he shoulda nicked me a camera would've but he obviously thought that I was not presenting a danger to myself or other road users so he let it slide common sense prevailed.

B1rdie - I was being sarcastic by quoting the government! c7u8 If you take it to the extreem, speeding is the cause of all accidents cos is very difficult to have an accident when your stationary, unless you stop at some lights and your only 3ft tall.

Much as I hate to have to agree with B1rdie but the speeding thing is just another pathetic BRITISH witch hunt and he is quite right. Speeding does not kill but fookin up whilst going fast can, as can fookin up whilst driving slowly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BAD DRIVING CAN KILL but bloody little seems to be done about it they just put up cameras that prove that your driving dangerously and your going to kill someone.
Strange that, I should have killed hundreds of people by now!
Anyway if there was a race on the road was closed. DUR! man8um

I know you were being sarcastic! so was I.

And it is very easy to have an accident anywhere when stationary, you could get hit by some twat speeding. :yo:

Guys I never said it did :bang: . Gov/Police have some big thing about speeding kills even though their figures say 3/4 are NOT caused by excessive speed. My point is this if they are out to cause a load of grief which in itself will not save lives, then why do not we do likewise and get some of them banned. %$fan

What do you reckon?

Or some old lady well past her use by date reversing her battered old fiesta into the side of your brand new car whilst you are parked up in a parking bay in tradex car park, and then claiming in half polish half gobbledy f*cking gook, that she didn't cause all that damage, no I did it myself you senseless old bat when I picked up the f*cking car at 5 o clock last night. :bang:

Don't think the road was effectively closed all the time, yes they try to do a rolling closed road, but there were certainly instances where the stretch of road had traffic and they were flying through.

Chiill man :-:

It's not Plod that is causing the hassles here but the bloody Government in league with the minority action groups and greed fuelled councils and camera partnerships.

If they were having to go that fast I guess they could have nicked some of the cyclists too especialy as the would have been riding on slicks.

There's a bit of fuss in NZ at present..

Police motorcyclists and patrol cars were recently in the news for escorting our Prime Minister in a convoy at an estimated 140km/hr plus on normal south island roads, including through villages. The reason? Getting her to an airport so that she could get back to Auckland to watch a rugby game

If the rest of us are 10km/hr over the limit, we're in for a good nicking. no wonder that radar detectors and jammers are common!

Grumble, grumble
:bang:

They can't speed

There isn't a speed limit for cyclists - they don't have to carry speedos, though 60mph downhill is scary, I know I've done it. 8l1nd

Very true, some GB Team rider got done for that a few years ago whilst out on a training ride, and that law was for horses galloping through villages. Plod will do you for anything - it just would be great to give some payback and ban a few police/gov. :}

Would have thought that you CAN be done for speeding on a (bi)cycle.

Just as you can be done for cycling whilst under the influence, not having working lights etc.

Also, when they came through our area the road wasn't closed, just a moving 'mass'

Also, the initial out-rider motorbike (about 5 mins ahead of the main bunch) was a Bird
