Heard a news item this morning on Radio 4, that the conviction/ solved case percentage for the Police has just dropped to 19%.

Is this true?

That means less than 1 crime in 5 is solved

Not wishing to piss off or provoke any of our police members here, but isn't that "success" rate appalling? Given that UK tax payers pay the salaries of the Police, that's not exactly value for money, or a good service is it?

Curious to hear the other side of this news story.

think i read somewhere that 1 nicking for shoplifting = 4 hrs of paperwork!!!

if that is true , i think that might have something to do with the figures.

It is just about true yes. Once you`ve locked up there are then statements to obtain from the shop and possibly video evidence to seize. More than likely the scrote will then want the duty solicitor to come into interview with him/her which can take anything up to an hour for them to arrive.
Then there is the interview - depending on what evidence you have it can be anything from a quick spin to about 30 minutes - then you have to contact the CPS by phone and tell them what you have and then they normally want you to fax all the statements through to them before they make a decision as to whether or not to charge
.
If you end up charging - it is then fingerprints and photographs - get a court date, get the scrote all his property back from when he was first booked in - then escort him from the cop shop before sitting down to start your court file.

Four hours on average I would say is just about right.......... it is total blks, and in this day and age there MUST be a much simpler and quicker way.
And folks wonder why they dont see bobbies on the beat!!

Also,, to include in 'Lensmans' good list is a House Search and the taking of DNA sample to conduct a speculative search..
Sadly yes, a simple job turns into hours of work with no 'thanks' at the end.

The results could also be affected by the fact that MORE crimes are being reported,, the way crimes are categorised has changed,, some incidents in the past which were NOT classed as a crime now are hence the figures go up,, people these days are refusing to be witness's as the offender ALWAYS walks free,, human rights has caused the judicial system to be sooooo bloody difficult that a conviction is near impossible. The new 'compensation' culture means that EVERY incident like an assault gets reported now so they can claim from the C.I.B.

Please do not tell me that the cops do not get results............force policy and PACE mean we cannot do half the things we used to like search a scrote on the street,,,we need proof that they've got or done something now.
We need to justify every single thing we do,, every action we take is monitored and questioned........you wonder why the life expectancy of a retired cop with 30 yrs service is under 65 yrs :violin:

go break into 4 houses then skip the 5th !!

Seriously though our police [I think] do a superb job under very difficult circumstances

With bugger all thanks at the end of the day cos the Magistrates let them off lightly

I have total respect for our bobbies - I wouldn't do that job at any price

Makes me even madder then when experienced Police Officers sit in vans al fecking day - issuing tickets for "Safety Reasons"

Not forgetting when the toe rag complains that he has been assaulted by the arresting officer, and more time is spent placating him and investigating his claims, even with video evidence to the contrary

To put it simply........ man8um

Magistrates have the same problems as the police. They get told what they are expected to do, and our Chief Justice of England has just issued a new set of guide lines which means even more scrotes walking :bang: :bang:

Scrote then goes into his local boozer...brags to his scum mates how he's 'got away with another crime'....scum mates think "this seems like easy money".....scum mates go out and commit similar crimes.....crime figures go up again. :bang: :bang:

Who would be a copper ????? :h
