If it's any use mate - Emma can have a go in the sidecar - after she has done a few mile with her arse 3" off the deck she may be happy to jump on the back of the 'bird. Serious!

My first husband was an excellent driver. We had a friend who was a retired Police Driving Instructor and he had great difficulty being passenger in anyone else's car - and even he said so. I was driven everywhere from age 17 to 35 with, basically, no fear at all. After my car test I was a terrible passenger - sharp intakes of breath; having to close my eyes; tensing all my muscles; not really wanting to go out etc. It took me at least 6 months to a year to get over it. Eventually I told a friend and she said what's different about his driving now then? He's known about all the hazards you're noticing now for far longer than you have luv, they were always there, it's just that you were blissfully unaware of them up till now! Nothing's changed. She was right. (she usually is :xm )

How do I feel now about the bikes? I leave that one entirely up to Pete. Maybe when he's ready, he'll go out on his own (I mean without me, maybe he would want to go out with eg Dave, I don't know) and we'll take it from there. When he says he's ready then I'll get on the pillion and see how I go. I don't know how I will feel, we'll have to wait and see. I know he wouldn't knowingly put me in any danger. His first words on Sunday after the off were 'Where's Jenny? Is she alright?' as he struggled to sit up and look round and almost passed out!

It is, as someone else said, entirely a matter of trust. If either Huw or Dawn (who were the only two who saw what happened on Sunday) or anyone else - think that Pete did - or might have done - anything he shouldn't, then I hope they will tell him/me/us honestly and sooner rather than later please.

Jen (still blissfully unaware)

Jen,

only met you and Pete once, but knowing the "friendship" amongst bikers then I am sure if anyone knows anything that will be of help they will be forthcoming ASAP.

You are so right Jen

it is a matter of trust. As pillion you are totally relying on the riders ability. When I first met Derek, he was a fairly safe rider but not really consistant. It was luck that we came accross the Rospa thing. I encouraged him to enrol and he did a 8 week course (every sunday) He did not do the test as he is one of those folk that goes to pieces in test situations. But wow did it improve his riding. Totally different. It instilled alot of confidence in me, and I learnt alot from him.

There is nothing worse than being pillion on a bike and being thrown backwards and forwards with an agressive person on the throttle. No fun when they brake aggressively and you whack helmets with them. Once you have pillioned with someone for a long time you get used to their style. I know usually what Derek is going to do. I am usually ready holding on tighter when I see that the road ahead is looking nice!!!!

I have not been on the back for ages now, and we are due to go over to Belgium at the end of this month. We also have a 9 day trip to Austria in June. So I am going to have to put in some hours on the back before then. I know its going to be uncomfortable, mentally that is. However, it will go if Derek keeps the pace nice and steady for a bit. AFter that he can do what he wants!!!

I think the other thing is that if you get scared at something and you basically want to slow down or have a break then the rider should really respect that. Derek usually slows it down then very very gradually sneaks it up again!!! :t :}

The phone call offer stands Rhino, just send me a message.
