Pillion lost bottle.

I need some assistance please..

Emma has lost her bottle to get back on the bike as over the "closed season" she passed her driving test and now knows 'everything'. She's frightened to climb back on board for whatever reason and i'm concerned as its not long until our Spain trip 08/06/05..
If anyone has any advice or a big prodding stick i'd be glad to hear, thanks.

Wait for the weather to warm up - check the AA's traffic watch website then suggest a day out in the car to the area where you know you're gonna hit the worst traffic jams ever.

After an hour sat going nowhere in the cage watching the bikers whizzing through she'll utter the words you need to hear, "I wish we were on the bike".

Should be a doddle mate.

John, my wife has only ever been on the back of any of my bikes about ten times maximum, and they were always when the car was out of action,
I think Emma having passed her driving test no longer relies on you to transport her everywhere, and as many people do she feels safer in the car,
give her time John but don't push her, she may come round she may not but it has to be her decision.

Rhino,

Start with short rides, go somewhere she wants to go.

Its difficult, its easy to lose the bottle, bloody hard to find it again.

Be gentle.

Either that or the Peugeot will rack up some miles going to Spain.......... %$fan

I wouldn't mind but she's done thousands of miles on the bike and was really comfy with it until the winter set in, now she's mobile herself she's a terrible passenger.
Only this morning she tried to rip chunks out of the dashboard while i was driving through town, she's such a bag of nerves (normally she's just a bag).

Rhino..............

a serious reply here.

I also found it really hard being pillion after I passed my bike test. I am like a backseat rider now, although we use it to our benefit
as an extra pair of eyes.

After I had my bike accident in 2000 I was terrified of being a pillion, took me a long time to feel comfortable. I still have moments where I have to tell Derek to slow down, although I don't get the flashbacks anymore which would be dreadful especially as we were negotiating tight bends!! Ultimately it takes time and I guess probably does not go away. Its all down to trust.

There is another way that would help but this will get some stick here so PM me!

If Emma wants someone to talk to then I would be happy to give her a call or she can call me. Just to talk about it.

Get her a pillion pal sorted,, gives her something to hang onto,, Lorna says it makes her feel more comfy & she can feel the bike better because she is in contact with the rider.

Otherwise leave her at home,,, get a pure sports bike & have loads more fun on your own :} ( but don't tell Lorna I said that<lol>)

Thanks folks,
BIF......nice one, may take you up on it.
Shrops, we use one already, had it before ASSEN and it makes things a lot better, once she's been on it i think it will be OK.

Rhino,
Sit Emma down over a few drinks. Try and get her to talk about her feelings/fears. Until you both know what's changed her mind, you have nothing to work with. You'll have to be patient. Then like Codbasher says just short rides to start with.
Al the best. Steve.

let her see how much fun it is! or you could always do an advanced test to prove to her how carefull u are. and u get cheaper insurance two birds with one stone. or let her do her bike test

visit "hogtied" take a lesson from that site, or just "arrange" to meet her at the destination,!! do you think she could persuade Tina to go with her??

Or get her to do CBT and DAS...

She might feel in control on her own (slow) bike?

Rhino,

off into a completely different ball park on this one, but bear with me...........

find another rider emma trusts and see if she is willing to go on the back of them......... my misses wouldnt go on the back of me after i scared her ( second time on BIRD and I forgot she was there and went after an R6. D'oh ) but after a few goes on the back of a mate of ours she was fine.

Just a different slant on things................

Biggest challenge, finding someone on here you can trust :neenaw:

LOL, she won't get on anyone elses bike :t , Shaun R1 rode my bike in Holland with Emma on the back while i took his R1, she wouldn't let me forget it %$fan .
Good idea but sadly a no go.
I think a short mooch will do it, maybe one evening in the next week or so i'll try.
