Just had an email from DPD about a parcel they've just received for delivery to me. In the email it suggests choosing to have my parcel delivered to a DPD pick up point as it can reduce CO2 emissions per parcel by 63%.

Am I missing something here? My parcel gets delivered to a shop 5 miles away. I then jump in my car & have a 10 mile round trip to pick up my parcel. Presumably what ever DPD saves in CO2 emissions by dropping it off at my local pick up point, I them emit by going to pick it up. Not to mention an additional couple of quid in fuel as well.

Admittedly it does say in the small print the 63% saving is based on me going to pick up a 10kg parcel by foot, but I thought the idea of parcel delivery services was to deliver to the address given.

There's a DPD pick up point where I work, so if I know I'm going to be out, I pick my parcel up when I get to work

It's all about their so called eco credentials. They don't give a toss about your environmental impact.
