Parking

Having just read Bikesnoopy's post in the help section regarding parking tickets it brought to mind an incident that happened to me in my younger more belligerent days.
Opposite where Argos used to be in Wakefield there was a section outside a couple of banks where people used to park whilst using the hole in the wall.
It was off the main road.
I was sat in the car one day in this section waiting for Bev when a young Harry potteresque traffic warden came & tapped on my window, I wound down the window (didn't have electric windows then) & looked at him.
He very politely said "Excuse me sir is this your car" I can't recall my answer but I do know it was sarcastic.
He then asked "Are you aware that you are illegally parked?"
"No I'm not" I replied
He then informed me that I was parked on double yellow lines & I asked him to prove it, he then walked round to the passenger side & waited whilst I got out & joined him.
He pointed to the ground in front of my car & said "Look there are double yellow lines"
I replied "barely visible ones & they stop in front of my car" he then said "Well they should go all the way"
Getting rather cocky now I said "Oh should they? well whether they should or shouldn't they are not visible & until there are visible double yellow lines I will continue parking here just like everyone else now run along home as it's past your bed time"
The poor kid just turned & walked away.
The site remained the same for about another fifteen years when they updated the precinct

I had a similar situation a few years ago.

I needed to go into town for a meeting and parking places where at a premium.

On one particular road I saw that the signs did not comply with the lines, so being illegal lines and signs I parked up.

As I got out of the car, a Copper on foot duty was looking at the illegally parked vehicles and issuing tickets.

He got to my car just as I went round to the rear passenger door to get my briefcase out.

He was blocking access to my door so I said "Excuse Me, you are in the way" as I opened opened the door.

Copper was dumbstruck at my insolence and said something along the lines of "You can't park here its illegal" I said "Really! Why is that?" he then went onto try and explain about the lines and signs and, and, and.............

So once he had finished I asked him to take another look at the signs and lines and tell me what regulation I had broken as you cannot have the lines and signs that were in place at the time together (I cannot remember exactly what the restriction was now, it was a long time ago)

Anyway, Copper looks, looks again and said something along the lines of "Bugger Me!" I have just booked about 20 cars down this road 8rfl@

Suffice to say, I continued into my meeting leaving my car where it was, poor copper was left wondering how he was going to get around the problem :-0)

I understand that parking fines paid over the previous 12 months or so were all refunded, but the signs and lines remained illegal for quite some time. I had my own parking space for at least 9 months until they corrected it :-0)

At the same spot as above I was waiting for a cop car to vacate the space, he pulled forward & I took his space.
The cop car stopped & the driver got out & approached me, he said "You can't park here" I asked "Why not you did" he replied "We were making observations" so I said "I was making observations, I was observing your colleague using the cashpoint" his mate told him to get back in the car.
